Yesterday, I met Steve at Port Henry after a “white knuckle” drive through fog and ice on Rte. 22.
We launched on a calm lake, rigged the rods and headed north. Our “game plan” was to start at Potash Point and troll north to Scotch Bonnet, cross the lake and troll back south.
We went “lines down” off Potash Point about 8:15, 2 dipsys and 2 down riggers – started with a Blue Moon, Patty’s Day, Fire Tiger and blue Pin Minnow.
Things started out slow – nothing for the first 45 minutes except a lot of fresh air – then “boing” the starboard rigger fires, the rod tip bouncing like a yo-yo, could it be??? Nope. Lake trout #1.
And that’s how the day went – “boing” – trout, “boing” – trout, “boing”…. We had 14+ “boings”, landing 12 fish the first 4 hours – with the starboard CI Blue Moon being smoking hot to the point that we put a 2nd out of the port rigger so Steve could get into the action – it didn’t work – for whatever reason the starboard side was hot, the port was not.
Steve finally got into the game around noon, landing the largest of the day on the Patty’s Day

All but 4 fish were caught on the VT side of the lake. The fish were a little bigger than last week.
Changing location hasn’t worked, changing lures hasn’t worked – I’m running out of things to change. I can catch fish, just not the fish I’m looking for – BUT, in the grand scheme of things, I’m fishing, I’m catching and I’m doing it with a friend – there really isn’t anything wrong and I should be thankful, however I did put a “down payment” on the rubber room.
Maybe December will bring the change I seek.
