Hooks
Years ago, some guys were changing from triple hooks, to a single J hook on their spoon's, do any of you still prefer one over the other ???.

Re: Hooks
IMHO a single siwash hook will keep salmon on best with minimal Mouth damage. In some rare cases it seems trebles can help a short strike hookup rate and also helps the action on some specific trolled hardware so there is still use for both.

Re: Hooks
I can tell you , I've been striper fishing since 1995 on the Hudson River, and this past spring we have had the points on 3 circle hooks snap off while fighting a fish.
Never before have I ever had this happen.

Re: Hooks
I change out trebles for single point siwash the day I take them out of the package - might miss a hook-up now and then, but considerably less damage to the fish.
Regarding snapping off points on stripers - I've fished the Hudson since 2003 - 30-40 days/year and never broke a hook - I use Eagle Claw L7228 7/0

Re: Hooks
BTW..... Siwash is a hook shape, not a brand. Tons of companies make them. I typically get open eye so that I can use them on lures with welded rings, vs split rings. Just give the eye a pinch with pliers till it's tight.
