I have a Tech question for all of you!
I'm bleeding my sea star hydraulic steering but every time I bleed my port side my starboard side locks up tight, do I bleed that one as well. I've watched YouTube videos and read the manual 20x but still have the same issue. I've spent 100$ in oil alone now. I've reached the end of my rope!!
What's next? Am I forgetting some thing?
Oh yeah the reason why I had re bleed the lines is I removed my auto pilot system. (Which wasn't working for the past 3 seasons anyways).
Thanks in advance
Steve

I'm thinking with the Sea Star or any other hydraulic system, once you induce air into the system, the entire thing has to be bled. Port and Stbd. Teleflex has some good info on how-to and their techs will help you out. Good luck

Re: Steering Issues
Bill,
I've bleed both side numerous times, I've pumped 4 quarts through the system with no luck. I've followed the instructions to the letter! Even had the wife read them and watch me (bad move when she saw the price per quart). Ill check with them again maybe I missed something obvious.
Thanks
Steve

Re: Steering Issues
Hi,Steve When we put hydraulic steering on the Baha we went thru the same thing and for the life of me I can't remember what it was but it was so simple it really psd me off when we figured it out 2 days later I think everything has to be bled at the same time but I cant rember for sure it was a night mare but the best thing we ever did it works like a drean know it might have even been that it had to be bled at the helm wish I could remember for sure

Re: Steering Issues
Well the issue still exists! I'm 100% positive the lines are hooked up right, I had a buddy come over tonight with his BFF (marine mechanic) still 3 hours later no luck!!! The only thing it could be now is a collapsing line somewhere.
To replace the lines are 18$ per foot x 32' x2.
Anyone want an eastern boat?
Break Out Another Thousand!!!!

Re: Steering Issues
Hello Steve; I had something like whats happening to you. It ended up being a pressure valve in the helm steering that got stuck. Not sure really how old the steering helm was, I tried to have it rebuilt but was told it could'nt be. Ended up getting a rebuilt out of Florida. I guess the problem was over steering and it jammed the valve.

Re: Steering Issues
Thanks for the Post, I gave it a break yesterday but left the filler tube and bottle connected on the helm.
Before I called it a day on Wednesday I raised the motors to the upright position and took the backhoe and lifted the tongue as high as it would go and parked for the night.
Very funny picture there. Tractor holding up a 27' Eastern on the tri axle trailer.
Wife thought I was crazy, today I lowered the boat and went on my merry way playing with other goodies before I left for work this evening i decided to give it one last shot. I removed the filler tube and bottle and just tried turning the wheel then I heard a POP!!! Steering is completely free!!! Working like day 1 again. No Leaks.
Got lucky I think!!! Time to fish!!!! Wash and Wax this weekend then lake bound here in NH.
Thanks for all the help guys
