Whitefish

Post by Debra »

I'm new to this forum and am coming here seeking any Whitefish tips or spots anyone is willing to give. Anything helps and will be very appreciated! If your seeking context, my nephew from Ontario is visiting me this summer and really wants to try and get on a Whitefish, which is his favorite species.
Thanks, Deb!

There was a Canadian person that hosted a fishing show that caught some big ones last year. He might be a source?

I think you should check with Sure Strike Charters. He's posted here before about whitefish.

I caught one two weekends in a row in August a couple of years ago. I was vertical jigging lakers in 90' of water and I thought both were lakers until I got them to the net.

If you figure out how to catch them please let me know! I don't think anyone really knows how to target them consistently on Champlain. People catch them while targeting other species.

I was out of Port Douglas for both.

Hey troutcrazy! If your fine with getting them through the ice, jigging a small blade bait like a vibrato works well on the inland sea around Savage island. But if you want to catch them on open water; jigging on the outer side of converse bay or port douglas seems to be good, as well as trolling for salmon in the inland sea. And thank you, Ship of fools food the spot! Also an area I feel like they'd be in is directly south of Savage Island in the pocket between the small islands behind it.
