First transmitter salmon landed from last November....

Just got a text from a fisherman up in the Sea last night that had one of the transmitter study salmon. He didn't know what it was when we went to clean his fish when he got home. The good news: This transmitter can be reused in another fish on another day! Battery life is 2 years plus/minus. Gave him Graham's phone number and Graham was thrilled it's going to be recycled! If anyone lands one and they see the stitches in the belly please release it!

That is unfortunate, I had hoped all 12 fish Graham implanted would have survived at least a year to provide data for the study. All of the fish he installed transmitters in were 14” or under (I know because I brought 5 in that Matt and I caught) and this fish was probably barely legal when stepped on with only 4 1/2 months growth in winter conditions. I have often said I personally would like F&W increase the legal creel size for salmon to 18”. Not only would we see bigger fish but it would help ensure studies like this could play out a year or two to see what they are doing for spawning etc. Right now 15” is basically a juvenile fish and unfortunately too many go in the live well. What are all of your thoughts??

Anyone know the typical length of the 1st year spawning of the males and females?

I got some information yesterday about how the process works with the Fish and Wildlife board made up with volunteers that advise them and meet once a month to review changes. We would need to have a petition to start the process. I would like to see the same for 3 rods a person like NY state but thats another day. Or petition both at the same time!

To stick with the subject; I totally agree. Let a fish enter it's third year of growth and a lot more fishermen will be marveling at the tussle the average 18 plus inch salmon delivers. My two cents.

I for a number of years owned and operated the twin to Reelax's former Lund Genmar. Mine initially was owned by a Mr. Bishop who resided right over there on Holy Cross Road, it was named Lundon Fog. Never made the man's acquaintance but recall seeing the boat parked in his yard numerous times as we went in and out of the Winooski River boat launch. We always wondered how the man made it in and out of that shallow river mouth with a car engine on his transom . But maybe that explains why we mostly saw the boat in the yard. I later, in a small world episode, bought it from it's second owner who had plied Moosehead with it up in Maine. She served me well mostly over here at Squam "Golden Pond" Lake, in NH. And yet lives on under the present ownership of my friend Dan Doubleday, who is also a recent convert to this honorable gathering of would be liars.
This last is likely a post more suited to the Show Boat header. But you guys will hafta bear with me whilst I tangle with the intricacies of P osting a Photo...Gleason gets his towel out again.
Nowadays you are apt to see me troll past in a Green and white 19 ft Starcraft w/Honda 90.

The way I have come to understand related supply and demand. Maybe transmitters should be affixed on them too. We hold such things to be sacred!

Also, it looks as if the worthy administrator has traced my efforts back to early attempts to join in... in September of 2012 see post #1. But that is LONG after he and I used to sleep in the back of his truck to await launching outta Shelburne Bay.

Welcome aboard JUMP. Sounds like you have been part of the gang for over a dozen years. Glad that you can post stories and reports now! I do vaguely remember a big Lund hull with a hearty crew at converse about 8 years ago. You have a very good memory!

Some times my train of thought far exceeds my keyboard skill. And the result becomes these lapses in the printed version. The guy who I used to head for Converse Bay with on a Friday night, to be in position for the morning launching, was my friend Terry Langford. He often pulled off a remarkable transformation from fishing apparel to tuxedo and play his saxophone at functions being held at Shelburne Farm. I never did see the inside of those slate roofed horse barns. No such transformation for this slob.
