After Debra was done having her way with VT and NY we decided to make a trip south to see what the results of the blow were on the lake.
WOW what a couple days can change!!! Tuesday the thermocline was 80-90 down to get 56deg water. Yesterday, 56 was down 28 in some spots!!We saw 48 deg at 45 fow most of day. All the way from Barber to beyond beaver brook to the south!
Fish were active in the top 30’fow. Kinda like fishing in May again!! Wierd to see 72 surface temp drop to 60 by the time you get a probe to 25 ft down… in August!
The heavy south wind over night must have pushed warm water north on top made up south by colder water from bottom… Heavy siege effect that will take days to settle out. Weeds were bad in spots with 10lb mats triggering lines many time during the day. Even some wood debris including a dock section seen on the main lake floating south… fished most of the day without another boat in sight!
We ran riggers with cheaters slide divers and a long lead. Everything fired during day. Bite started slow but picked up around 8-10am and we were busy for a while. Mostly salmon caught with a couple jumpers mixed in. I think we only did 3 lakers.
Menu was a beef eaters dream. We started with breakfast fillet mignions bbqed in the grill. Later in the day we threw on the main course. A trio of 1lb 1” thick ribeyes barely fit on the tired magma and sizzled to a perfect pink juicy slab. These steaks kept us going till 230pm when we called it.
Red front with gold back won the spoon of the day , but many spoons fired as we worked the counter to double didgets by 1pm. Sets with verticle blades on the riggers and also the rigger with a sonic attractor got the big salmon of the day. Joe had one rigged 1’ behind the ball and it worked!!
Met Blackdogs at the dock on way in, good to talk to another salmon troller out both Tue and Sat here..
Fleas were almost totally gone! Great news!
Thanks for the great day on the Pond Joe and Esad!
Fish on!

I swear I could smell those steaks on your grill from 40 miles away!
Re: Post Debra scouting trip south
You guys know how to live and fish! Wish I lived closer to the lake. The older I get the further away it seems!
See you on the pond!

Glad to hear the salmon are still active down here. After seeing those rafts of weeds out there I decided to continue my bass fishing hiatus (since I can’t seem to get the walleye program going). The smallmouth fishing has been hot though!
