How much will 3 or 4 inches of rain impact the lake and for how long?

Post by Ship of Fools »

I see heavy rain forecast over the next day and I know in the past I've heard the lake was a mess afterwards. I'm hoping to fish deep water on Sunday and wondering if I'm going to potentially run into issues? Any help / thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

If you fish areas away from the river mouths you may be fine. Things usually calm down within a few days. Recently the shear amount of grass and big mats green crap in the water has been a big problem. This rain will only worsen that for a period. I’m fishing Saturday and I’m gonna look for the biggest basin of clear water I can find to troll. Good luck

The current Pt. Bay Marina report says that last year's storms brought the lake up 2 feet, and they are expecting the same with the recent/current rains. Already the dock staff is letting out chains. As Matt shared, the weeds and grass will be substantially reduced/broken up, but it's now like Spring again, so watch for logs and trees, houses and tanks, that can be more than a mere annoyance. Heck, one spring Reelax and I once found a whole cow adrift! Travel safely! I fear this rain infusion and heat will make the fleas worse, not better, but I hope to proven wrong.

Well it hit hard again. I’m gonna fish the most river protected water I can find tomorrow and see if any salmon wanna play. I have a seasoned hard core experienced crew on with AveJoe and Crawfish and we expect to land a monster some time between 740am and 227pm… Stay tuned…

Went out today, but not to fish. Mallets Bay Inner Bay was reasonable water quality. Surface temp 79.5 degrees. Outer bay was full of silt, very poor water quality. Surface temp 78.7 degrees. Silt coming out of Lamouille and spread up to sandbar bridge and out towards cut. Inside Robinsons there was some good quality water. Off of Thayers Beach also decent water quality.

I did not see any debris which surprised me. I did not head out to the broad lake, but suspect that it would have been poor water off Colchester reef due to the Winooski dumping from all the rain.

Good luck and stay safe out there.

I ended up fishing out of Port Douglas and the water was clear with no debris spotted. Picked away at lakers in the morning and then moved when the wind died down a bit and caught fish all afternoon until we left at 6pm. Thanks for the intel!
