Use Navionics.com and Chart viewer

Post by Digitroll Fishing »

For people looking for walleye spots to troll or cast. Go to Navionics.com click on viewers at the top and then chart viewer. Here is an example of a screen shot. This is Kellogg island in Keelers Bay. I made a screen shot saved it and then edited the photo to draw an outline area of where of where to fish. Target 10-12 fow and troll around these reefs after dark. If you catch a walleye save the waypoint and go anchor and cast on that spot. We would use spoon bill rebels in the old days for casting and trolling. Any deep diver hard bait will work. Spinning rod for casting.

Example 2: Ball Island outside St Albans Bay. Black line stay on 10-12 fow trolling. Cast anywhere you catch walleye trolling. Off the can is really good too! Dusk to midnight.

Reggie has a great system going. Very difficult to duplicate. People that fish with Reggie struggle to reproduce his success on their own. (documented cases) Many people don't realize it's quite a bit more productive to stop and throw an anchor by casting for them once there located. It's quiet and specific to cast on a school. You might be surprised who you run into on the lake at night that practice this on any reef with buoy's or not. And there are fish over deeper water as well suspended. Caveat: It's very challenging at night to stay on a 10-12 fow contour and deal with weeds too! LOL I struggle big time at Ball Island.. 1-2 walleyes at times other times zip! If it was easy everyone would be doing it! I would try 2-3 times a year. I don't fish them anymore. I see guys coming in at sunrise at the ramp that fish all night when we are launching. There are many spots out there. The ones that fish all the time and put the time are catching. 10% of the walleye fisherman catch 90% of the fish. Trolling over suspended deep water is very productive too. Just have to put the time in and locate them. I remember the late Brian Bashaw from Plattsburgh who won many LCI events and All Season LCI annual contests and he would go out in a 14 ft boat and troll 5-6 hours a night over deep water from 4 brothers to Valcour and catch monster walleyes. Rebel and Bomber deep divers. He would sometimes go a month before catching one or two of his target 9-10 lb fish. He would fish every night from July to September that he could get on the water if the wind wasn't a factor for his 14 ft utility boat.

I remember an old timer retired would catch them during a hot summer day in the weeds in shallow water up in North Hero off Butler island and City Bay reefs. Ton's of structure up there to fish. He was very successful when no one was catching walleyes in 2000-2010.

There is a lot of walleyes in Inner and Outer Malletts bay! Divers have video on the web of schools of them on the reefs. Stave Island cans and the pinnacle north of Schuyler reef Ferris Rock. Many NY anglers fish that. Colchester reef / Sloop Island reef and Scott Bonnet reef. The small island to the left launching out of Arnolds Bay ramp.

If your a Facebook subscriber you would be surprised how many big walleyes being shown caught from casting October thru January during daylight hours. Fishing 802 is the group. The moderator and his guests show his walleyes caught during those October - January months.

I remember one of the first few LCI derbies there was a few boats trolling in shallow water to the right of the Lamoille river north branch just crushing them!

If you target 10-12 fow troll first find an eye and then stop the boat throw the anchor and cast for them. This is what I would do if your fishing reefs by locating them first just trolling 10-12 fow. Have some casting open faced spinning reels ready. Some of the successful guys are casting for them. This will cut the trolling time spent considerably.

Walleye fishing can be like Steelhead fishing on a river. It's very specific and dues paid pays off with time put in. Or try golf?

Pick your poison! LOL

Easy option: Lake Erie daylight Charter... Crazy fishing. Easy Salmon option: Lake Ontario "Even a caveman can do it!"
