Beautiful LandLocked at my driveway!

Post by raz »

I was hoping to read here how that beautiful Landlocked Salmon ended up at the end of my driveway.
Then filleted with 1/2 to be grilled tonight and the other fillet another time.
Beautiful. Clean. Silver.
Thank you fella's from the bottom of my wife and my hearts! ❤️
Catch and serve with lemon.

Well, that salmon was almost eaten by a bald eagle prior to making it to the boat.

Saturday started with a 530am launch out of Converse with Scott and Zeb. 4 riggers and a 5 color lead with a 1 oz weight added to start the spread. We motored north of diamond and set the spread.

Sun rise was amazing, surface temps in the low 70’s with 56 deg some where around 70fow. As we motored more south the thermo cline got deeper due to the siege effect north to south. So instead of heading south across Westport we turned back north to keep sets higher in water column.

As we passed snakes den on the 1st run by the deepest rigger fires and a nice salmon is already airborne way out about 150 ft back. Scott jumps in the rod and works his 1st fish since his back surgery. I am sure it felt great to stand straight up and fight a fish:)

Well we weren’t the only guys working this salmon. A bald Eagle that lives in snakes den saw the jump from his perch and swooped down to make a pass at the fish after the 1st jump. On his 1st pass by Scott had the fish 20yards from the boat and we had to yell to get him to aboart his pass before he grabbed the fish right at the back of the boat. We all were amazed at how bold that bird was..

Well we landed the fish, came on a pink old school bobo mp6. It hit From 65ft down with about a 45ft setback. No bling today. (Thanks for the intel Todd)

We celebrated with an early chow session And lit the BBQ to enjoy some bison steaks Scott brough
For breakfast;). OMG that was so tender with Montreal steak seasoning HOT and rare!!!

Bait was very localized but in the right spots it came up to 50fow and provided good action. It has been weeks since I have targeted salmon and it felt good to have action in August…

We ended up having hot dogs and hit Italian sausage for lunch and had to pick up around 1230 due to the heet…
Sad to say the marinated venison never made it to the grill today as it was so hot we didn’t make it to the third course:(

Thanks for the great trip Guys… It had been way too long since having a fun day on the lake like that…

Fish on!

Raz - I saw your post and presumed that it might have ben a fish I'd handled, but it's Captain's story to tell. Thankfully, he left out some of the less glorious moments. The boat and it's crews aren't cursed, but Matt may be feeling so this season! Issues aside (and still to be resolved off-line) we had a good day in tough conditions while focused on silver. The eagle attack was awesome to see. It came from nowhere very quickly on the salmon's first jump. We could have lit the board with lakers, but Zeb wasn't too keen of pulling on the Tica's much longer and we were seeking active higher level silvers. As for me post surgery, a good test run, a bit sore, but that's a recovery and therapy issue. Thanks Matt and Zeb!

What a day! I always love to see the fish but equally satisfying is what is on the grill!

Great job!

Thanks for the trip. Good to visit with you Matt and Scott. The eagle was a real highlight! It's been a tough season, but got to see a nice silver.

Nada Matt. Totally empty. And I totally surprised Cathy filleting it without incident or issues with just a couple strokes of the knife after not touching a salmon in 3 friggen years!

Cool video of that Eagle fishing. Thanks again guys for sharing your catch. It was a thrill to receive it and a delight to eat it! Excellent table fare!
Catch and serve with lemon.
