Rod and reel combos

Post by woolywag »

so my question is what does everyone use for salmon , i've been using 8'6" ugly sticks w/ shimano TR100G , they have been a good set up , never have been happy w/ the drag , so I/m thinking of a upgrade ,

I run the 8'6" Daiwa heartland kokanee rods with the Daiwa 27lc reels, nice setup for salmon here. I know most of the guys prefer the light action rods be it Daiwa, Ugly sticks or other brands and as far as reels the Daiwa 17lc or 27lc are perfect size but I would also look at the Okuma reels in the same size, nice reels and a little less money.

I WOULD ALWAYS GO WITH DIAWA SEALINE & ugly sticks or browning noodle rods(DICK SWANN).

Been using the Cabelas depth masters for the past four years. 8'6 The combo packages are priced very reasonable and i have never had a problem with them. I don't see the need to buy the really expensive stuff, unless i was a charter captain. Then you want the best.

I've got the Diawa 17 and 24 and I like them both. The 24's came with a heavier Rod package than I usually use but they work good for Lakers off the bottom. The Fish have been bigger so I am putting some more back bone into any new rods.
