Launch Ice conditions weekend of Jan 15th

Post by Reelax »

Sunday the 16th looks like it is a great day to troll from a wind and moon phase perspective. With the extreme cold going into Sunday morning for a couple days there may be ice issues at the launches.

If anyone has an update on any launches like Otter, Converse, Arnold’s bay, Champlain bridge, Apple
Island, port Henry, etc… it would be great to hear any updates here. Crew is lined up and we need to get to open water:)

We can launch with up to 2” bay ice out a half mile or so…. But if it is beyond that, Sunday may be a futile attempt.

Thanks for replying with any launch conditions you may see..

Here's the current view from Pt. Bay Marina: https://pointbaymarina.com/store-webcam/ The yard is full, so I don't know if the ramp there is available.

Vested interest, but it will be interesting to see it again in 2 or 3 days! Fingers crossed!

After being exposed to Covid Thursday. Todays’s trip has been canceled. Looking at the -18 deg outside temp with out windchilll currently at my house there is no way the launch is still open. If anyone has a chance to see Converse, or any other launch today. It would be great to hear the ice conditions.

Fish on.

Well, I can tell you it was about 2 degrees out a little while ago, at about noon when I checked down here in Vergennes. I'm not sure you missed much out there today. I could tell it was still cold out this morning when my kitchen sink pipes were frozen.

With the subzero nights it may be unrealistic to find a launch open. Is there any open water in front of any ramp out there?

Has anyone seen coast guard launch in Burlington?

Thanks for any info you can post.

Way late on this but as of today Burlington is pretty well locked up to the breakwater. Not a surprise with the cold we've had. Not sure how thick at Coast Guard but it isn't just skimmed over, that's for sure.

Bets on if broad lake will close this year? Doesn't affect me unless I want the novelty off ice fishy off Burlington but I feel bad for the frostbiters!
