Lake trout jigging
Lake trout jigging
Noticed not many reports being posted so thought I’d report on jigging lakers last week. My friend and I fished the Willsboro Point/ Schuyler Island area. First stop my friend picked up 2 lakers after several hits and losing two on the way up. The largest was a little under 9 lbs. The other seven lbs. Up toward Schuyler I had my first hit then landed a seven pounder. My buddy pulled in another going about six lbs. All fish caught between 90-100 feet of water. All caught on pearl Crippled herring. Didn’t mark many fish. Usually only one or two at a time.
Re: Lake trout jigging
Nice work! Heading up this weekend for our annual trip. Jigging Lake trout is our typical method/target. We will be in the Willsboro area. We normally go in July, but had to move it back a month. Any location changes from July to August? Not on the lake often and only a few days to fish. Any input would be welcomed!!

I use braided line with 20-25 lb test fluorocarbon for a leader. I haven’t been out regularly so I can’t comment on the movement. I can say I haven’t caught the numbers I did two years ago. Last year the same. Not marking the numbers of fish like I did previous years.

I'm new here and have been jigging lakers through the ice on George for years and finally gave it a shot on open water on Champlain. I've been out twice on Charters in August and we did well both times. We were in Willsboro Bay and out in the main lake for a bit and caught fish both spots.
Now I'm in the market for a new trolling motor!

Thanks - I'm fairly confident I can put some fish in the boat on my own. We had multiple flashers going and it was kind of a mess with all of the interference.Gecha (Gerry) wrote: ↑Thu Aug 26, 2021 3:16 pmWelcome to the forum.Ship of Fools wrote: ↑Thu Aug 26, 2021 9:59 am I'm new here and have been jigging lakers through the ice on George for years and finally gave it a shot on open water on Champlain.
