Little bit Nautical prior to the big storm..
Launched from the new Arnold’s bay concrete ramp on Monday with WDNR and Dave Fondry with 2 friends aboard both named Dave. We were in for a confusing trip..
The weather forecast was boarderline but we knew we could find shelter in the forecast by using shoreline we just needed to get to the spot... well that was an adventure all itself. But we never hit any of the safety triggers I use to be safe on trips. IE we never took 3 waves in a short period over the bow so we were good.
Here is a short video of a spot where we were gonna set up. The waves were too bad https://youtu.be/UEds0poWKOw
After the fun ride we setup 4 down riggers.. The 4th getting broken in for 1st time...!!!! and 2 slide divers out set to 4 on each side. I am now running the big rings to get them deep. Can get 65 fow with these things.
The surface temp was 73 to start and the break always only at 45ft when we started. We started with a blast... as we were setting up....
1st fish hit hard and ran like crazy followed buy a nice Ariel show out back just to show us how big he was before he spit the spoon and swam away... blueberry pancake spoon from Crazy Ivan was the 1st to fire... and Dave swears it was steel that kissed him good by...
Long story short we Were able to find a couple good spots to fish but kept getting blown off them... we found adult lamprey attached to shaker salmon that were as long as the poor fish... we picked away at them and by 11am we’re finally able to work our way to our TGT spot... the wind turned west and let us slide into place. .. what we found was more of the same... a deep bite that was not the monster fish we hunt.
Today’s menu started with bbq’ed chicken kabobs an and finished with sweet Italian sausages. We really didn’t have time for the hot dog course even though we fished for 9 hrs and 24 miles....
Not many fish pics as they were going back in quick, Dave did land a nice lake herring....
Thanks Dave and Dave for a great time!!

Way to work through the waves and find some fish. Where did all the big ones go? I love the shed! Looks really nice.
Re: Little bit Nautical prior to the big storm..
Nice job! You and your crew know how to make it happen in any condition! I like the built in meat pole in your new shed.

Re: Little bit Nautical prior to the big storm..
You can find them at most good fishingntackle stores. I actually picked a couple up on Amazon. 50lb braid line works best, non stretching and will cut thru water well. A heavy rod that is 8-9ft works best. My 2 slide diver rods have been setup for 8 seasons. Only need to replace beside when it wears...striper192001 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 06, 2020 7:54 am Do you just keep a couple roads rigged up with them and ready to go.......any particular rod and pound test ??
