Any Hams on the lake? (as in ham radio...)

Post by karl »

Is the 2mtr. Mt Greylock repeater in Mass. usable from Lake Champlain?

It seems to cover most of New England and was wondering if a 5w handheld would
be able to communicate from the northern part of the lake, like the Plattsburgh area.

Any experience?

Sorry but the Mt Greylock machine does not get any coverage up this way. There are a couple of local repeaters that have IRLP links that could accomplish the link

Thanks.

What are the 2mtr repeaters with direct access with the best coverage between the border and Plattsburgh (ones that are mostly English, not French)?

I just need callsigns, can look-up freqs. and tones...

Prefer open machines, don't need anything fancy like phone patch.

I'm currently living in Albany, but just bought property in Chazy and should be living full-time there within a year.

[off my own topic, but will be needing a decent place to shoot mostly handguns near Chazy, the less structure and rules the better....}

The Plattsburg,Lyon Mtn both listed as W2XC and Burlington W1KOO machines get good coverage of the lake.... Whiteface is good and linked to several other machines on the NY side but is only for emergency use (and twice daily weather net tied in with National Weather office in Burlington) and is monitored 24/7 by NY emergency management N2JKG

The Bolton machine has great coverage right across VT through the I 89 corridor over into NH WB1GQR and also has a link

I am over in Colchester and could probably work you simplex if you have a base station at the Peru QTH

I cant help you on the last request at least on that side of the lake
