Well, here in Vermont, most of the boat launches are kind of a legal gray area already. As I understand it, fish and game accesses (which most of our boat ramps are) are only for fish and game access. For example, you cannot launch your 26' sea ray and go boating for a week. Pretty sure you're not supposed to drive up and park your car sideways on the ramp for a half hour to unload your kayak and paddle around taking pictures of flowers. I would classify those two things as recreational vessels, already not allowed at Vermont fish and game access ramps.

Is a vessel being launched for the purpose of fish and game (food) the same as a recreational wake boarding boat to go blast by other swimmers and boaters to show off? I say no. I'd say the wake boarding boat is recreational, and the fish and game boat is not. But, I'm a laborer, not a judge.

And by the way, I personally think there should be more access via ramp where a guy doesn't need to spend $5000 a year to keep his boat at a marina just to enjoy the water. Just like water front property, the lower middle class is slowly being priced out of the lake too.

Vermont is head and shoulders above NH when it comes to state launches.

I agree in principle with your post. However, the boat launches I have been to in Vermont are miles better than most NH boat launches. I live near lake Sunapee in NH. The public boat launches are crap. They are either too shallow, too crowded, or have no parking near by. I prefer to fish in Vermont partially because of the better launches and partly because of the fantastic fishing. It would be nice to have a slip at a marina, but like you say, most of us are priced out of that market.

Well I for one am happy to have guys like you greenhorn come over and use the ramps in my backyard. I live about 10 minutes away from Fort Cassin, 25 minutes away from the Champlain Bridge, 20 minutes from Converse, 15 minutes from Lewis creek, etc. Really nice to see fishing supported here by people from so far away. I just wish our government would recognize that as well, and stop this foolish talk about closing a hatchery to save 250K. Stop the breaks on lamprey control to save 20K. Not only does it make environmental sense, it makes incredible financial sense to keep our ramps and fisheries healthy. Just the LCI pays for that several times over itself in economic impact to the state, and of 6000+ participants, barely any fish are weighed in, let alone harvested.

And by the way NY, your boat launches that I have visited, which isn't many, make our launches in Vermont look SILLY. You guys have some really nice boat launches. Somebody had a head on their shoulders when they planned and constructed those.

Ha, yeah, I've been saying for a while, don't break it down by the business, break it down by the product. Sale of Alcohol, tobacco, sugary drinks, candy, and lottery tickets should all be suspended. That would keep a lot of people out of their local stores, right? Problem is, there's a loooot of money that goes straight to the government from that stuff.

This is what hooker is referring to:

Marinas have been determined to be non-essential (due to the face-to-face interactions with marina staff and users), but a given marina can still apply for an exemption from ESD. Due to the self-serve nature of the boat launches, DEC’s sites are still available.
