LCU and TU Announce 2020 STATE of LAKE CHAMPLAIN FISHERIES MEETING

A small group of dedicated LCU and TU anglers have been working with the Lake Champlain Fish and Wildlife Management Cooperative for the past year to provide Lake Champlain anglers a comprehensive status report on the 2019 season, along with the future plans on Lake Champlain's fisheries.  We are happy to announce the Cooperative has agreed to co-sponsor with us the first
State of Lake Champlain Fisheries meeting this winter.

Sat. March 7th 1:00 pm
Robert Miller Community & Rec Center
130 Gosse Ct (off North Ave)
Burlington

Key members and advisors of the Co-op’s Fisheries Technical Committee,
representing the following organizations will be in attendance to present information and answer angler’s questions about the lake.

Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department (VTFWD)
New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC)
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS)
University of Vermont (UVM)
Vermont Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit (VCFWRU)
Lake Champlain Sea Grant Program

We will post a more detailed description in the coming weeks so stay tuned.
Mark this date on your calendar!
This will be your best opportunity to keep yourself up to date on the dynamics occurring in the Lake’s fishery!

The State of the Lake Coordinating Committee

This will be a great opportunity to ask questions and for people to see the data they have to present. Since it's the first kind of summit of everyone with the salmon program it would be wonderful if this becomes an annual event. Thanks again Bill for your effort!

I’d like to give credit where credit is due to the 4 other members of the State of the Lake Fisheries Coordinating Committee, who have worked tirelessly to put this meeting together. LCU and TU members Bill Jacobus, Bill Rasch, Syl Stempel and Ryan Whitney are a passionate group of anglers who, together, have logged about 175 years of angling on Champlain and its tribs, and have been around since the early days of the Salmonid Restoration Program.

A huge appreciation as well to the Lake Champlain management team from the various agencies and departments for the discussion time spent with us, as well as the effort required by them to prepare for this meeting.

Since there will be time allotted for Q & A, it would be very helpful to use this Forum to formulate a “shopping list” in advance, of issues that you, the anglers, would like to see addressed by the speakers (whether you plan to attend or not).

This is your opportunity to have your voices heard by those making the policies and decisions about the Champlain Fishery Program

Not sure if we'll be home by then Bill, and I'm going to do my best to attend. I would just have one question, What is going on with the Broad Lake?

Too bad. Yesterday I received a package of west coast Albacore from my brother who runs a boat from Half Moon Bay. Smoked, it's like candy. I'm sorry that I can't share!
