Hatchery brook

Post by Wdrnr »

Stopped by the hatchery brook. Looks like another fall with no returns starting. I’ll give it till November but not starting out very good.

Indeed. I Just got back from Pulaski/Altmar after fishing this weekend. Kings are throughout the Salmon already, and we had a banner morning in the Upper Fly section. The afternoon was even better after we relocated to the DSR. Big numbers of Kings (and BIG ones this year), as well as a few early browns and steelhead. We saw Coho too, but didn't land any. Estaz flies, glo-bugs, wooly buggers and leeches all produced. We fished 3x tippets and didn't hike out until well after dark.

I fished for a bit at the Salmon Hole on the Winooski yesterday, and it looks like they don't even have the lift open yet. The water is about as low as I've ever seen it there and I didn't see any signs of salmon or trout. The only fish biting were tiny smallmouths.

Little birdy told me that after that rain earlier this week brought a good amount of fish into the brook. Runs on! Fish are showing up in the trap, and there's a good amount in the hole at the below the bridge.

Huh ,,,,,, stopped by the brook today and what do you know .... fish in the water ! The pool at the road had a good number of mature fish of which very few had return tags. There were a decent amount of 4 lb fish and a couple over 6lb. One had a lamprey as long as it was. I would say there had to be 30 fish there did not go upstream . Some broaching fish in the cove as well .... good stuff.
