We headed out of shelburne yesterday with 802fishtail and my buddy brody. With the forecast HOT, with scattered thunderstorms and some wind we started in the bay. We set gear by the yacht buoy and had a hit almost immediately on a rainbow trout speedy shiner on a slide diver. It screamed drag a couple of times telling us it was likely a salmon, but we lost it before it came up. We kept at it in that area with no luck and decided to change some gear. I put down the trusty Spin N Glo, and no sooner did it reach the bottom it fired. Fish on. George grabs the rod and it feels huge. its pulling drag on him (tough with 20lb flouro and the drag tightened down accordingly), and we all get excited. But as soon as it hits the surface the excitement fades as we realize we are just pulling a typical 8lb through the water by the tail. We land it and get it back in the water.
With minimal luck and calm weather we headed out of the bay trolling. Normally I pull gear and run, but the last couple times we have trolled out we have had success. We had gear running around 45-65. As we trolled out we got checked by a warden who mentioned that people had been getting steelies in the bay in the last couple weeks. almost as soon as he left us a rigger fires and sure enough a 20 inch steelie. we picked up a couple more lakers as we trolled out and then got a few on the shoal.
Around 12:45 the wind started to pick up. We decided that we would troll back into the bay as it was getting pretty rough and we needed to be off the water by 2. As we passed the feared shipwreck running over deep water a rigger fired. Brody grabbed the rod and we got the fish to the back of the boat with no fight, then realized it was a nice salmon, and as soon as we realized that it also realized its fate and decided to fight right at the back of the boat, swimming into other gear. Brody managed to get it out of the other line, and I got the net under it. Not a monster, but a nice 22 inch 4.25 lb salmon, the biggest we have seen this year. we got one more laker in the bay and ended a brown short of the grand slam, 9 fish landed on 16 releases. Spin N Glo only accounted for 2 fish all day, and we couldnt really find a hot pattern to put together a program. I will try to load pics later.

How were the fleas?
Re: 7/21 Shelburne
None to speak of really. Only had them on my knots. Grass was a much bigger issue as it was everywhere.

Nice report, you've had a good summer already of fishing. Thanks for sharing.
