Most Important Mission For the Future

Post by tench »

My stepfather passed away unexpectedly at the age of 42 on Thursday, leaving behind myself, my mother, and my two younger brothers, ages 20 and 10, as well as the rest of our family. He had told me this past fall that he wanted to go ice fishing for the first time. Sadly that will not be happening this season, but my mission for this year is to get my youngest brother (Noah) on the ice, along with my mom who hasn't gone since she was a child. I know that Teddy is learning how to jig perch in the sky as I write this. He loved playing the guitar, working on cars, and fishing. He was a part of my life from 2 years old on, and was more of a mentor and role model than anyone could ask for. he taught me how to drive, how to rebuild a carburetor, how to catch a northern, and how to be a stand-up man. He was there for me through my struggles in school, hockey, break-ups, college, etc. He didn't have any medals or prizes but he was a real hero to anyone that knew him. I only hope I can be half the man he was. Especially in Noah's eyes.

He had a seizure and then suddenly stopped breathing. My mom did all she could, as did the EMT's.

This tragic event has made me further realize the importance of family and living your life to the fullest, one day at a time. It can all be gone in an instant. Make sure to learn something every day and share something with everyone you meet. Live your life with no regrets, and surround yourself with the ones you care about. May your augers be sharp and your lines tight.

Thanks for reading.

Very sad. it reminds me of my late dad telling me when he was 7 years old in Ohio in 1942 his dad bought a license to take him fishing and he passed away before the opening of the season. Lifes lessons can be really tough. Sorry to hear about your loss. Nice to hear your taking your younger brother.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. You wrote a truly great tribute to this man who installed value into your life. It is quite clear from reading between the lines that what he gave you was realized in life and what you expressed was not a conclusion following his unfortunate early death but a summary of what you already knew. God bless you.
