Almost ready
Been keeping an eye on the river and things are starting to heat up...won't be too long until I post some reports and probably GoPro videos of fish.

Yep, stop down in the hole yesterday after work to throw a few crankbaits and spoons. Noticed the signs for lamprey spraying. Water is cloudy from runoff and still low.
Nothing biting from the Burlington side.

Re: Almost ready
They treated it today for 12 hours, turning the water an awkward green tint...tons of workers down there, including a boat checking for dead lamprey on the beaches. There's a few in there, hiding out and waiting for waters to rise and temps to drop. I met one worker who recognized me from the forums and talked to him for a little while and learned about the treatment. They did it all in one shot, for 12 hours straight and poured the chemicals into the water ABOVE the dam where the water gets sucked down into the turbine, taking advantage of the turbine mixing all the chemicals and evenly distributing it.

Re: Almost ready
I dug out my flyrod and am getting ready to hit the Hole this Fall. I have a crazy schedule, but I'm only 5 minutes from the river. Should be able to get some weekday time to wet a fly or two. It'll take a while to get the rust out of my casts.

Re: Almost ready
You'll see me down there! The water in some places has gotten better, especially on the beach. Will make for some fun fishing in faster water when they're in with higher numbers. I've got 2 spots picked out downstream that were littered with redds last year but I was too late to fish the areas.fishmaster176 wrote:I dug out my flyrod and am getting ready to hit the Hole this Fall. Earlier in the morning they were out in force checking for what washed up on the beach, dead lamprey! Not sure if they found much though, which should be a good thing? Maybe they'll post a report on their findings soon.
As for my "report", not much happened besides a ton of fallfish that wouldn't pass up a copper john almost every drift, and a few bass that hit streamers on the swing. Water was much clearer but still had a tint of murky to it. After release a little fallfish from the rock, a big untagged chunky salmon porpoised a few feet in front of me, giving me a glimpse of what's to come. Tomorrow I'll be after them again.

Re: Almost ready
Tim, we'll be after some bigger wild browns soon enough! I went after work for an hour until dark tonight. Talked to a friend that was down there and said he saw fish coming up in the shallower parts, then rising and rolling in the deeper parts. Just before dark I saw a ton of action on the surface, mostly bass but a big salmon must have gotten hit by my line, he jumped real fast and made a big splash. Threw everything I had at where they were rolling and no takes though...I'll keep at it.

Re: Almost ready
Been on the water a lot lately and have started to see some results. Had a grab on a streamer yesterday and hooked into a pig easily over 6 lbs today nymphing. Randy missed two fish that followed his lure to the surface but missed and then didn't committ. Looks like things are finally starting to heat up! Didn't bring my gopro today so no footage of the salmon...I'll have it on me all the time from now on. Will check things out later in the week after we get this flush of much needed rain!
