I was fortunate enough to be part of the crew for a few days, to deliver the new 48' Middlebury Research Vessel, the DAVID FOLGER, to it's home at Point Bay Marina. A simply amazing vessel, fully equipped to handle numerous lake-related tasks and then some. The vessel even has a very sophisticated downrigger! Congratulations to Middlebury College, especially Tom and Pat Manley from the Geology Dept.
I was delighted to see that they took extensive measures to clean the entire vessel at Fort Edwards to prevent dragging invasive's into Champlain! They set the bar high for others to follow...although I would still like to see the Champlain Canal closed.
Interesting build, with lots of glitches along the way, and apparently some cost-overruns from the initial $1.7 million allocation...but, Middlebury of course has the big bucks...plus got grants.
