License fees

Post by vtfishin »

VT non-resident fishing license: $45 (cheaper if you buy a 5 year)
NY non-resident fishing license: $70
Quebec Non-resident Fishing license: $65.77

VT 7 day: $30
NY 7 day: $35

Would VT sell fewer non-resident licenses if they were the same? ...or would it generate more money for VT facilities and maintenance of access?

Given the luxury of a reciprocal license to fish Lake Champlain, I think we are wise to have the best deal...therefore attracting more nonresident fisherman to purchase the Vt license versus going across the lake to make the purchase.
However, maybe there should be another tier? A higher price for "other Vermont waters"?

I'm with you Gerry. If the cost of a Vt license is the or close to the cost of the NY license me and many others will be purchasing the NY one; I speaking for myself will save because I'm also buying a license to fish lake Ontario on NY side.

I think the price is higher because of the price of the other state that are sharing a land on the border of the Great Lakes.

For Quebec, welcome to this state where gaz is 5.25$/gal :)

first off, i buy both state licenses, however i believe since we now share the lake there should not be a state border on the lake i should be able to fish the vt bays as vt anglers can fish the whole lake (except for the farthest south portion). i think raising your out of state licenses the same as ny would hurt the license sales for you guys, i know i wouldn't buy one, i only venture on vt side a couple of times a year. plus vt has no where near the amount of fishable water as does ny state.

NY fees are highway robbery for non-residents. IMO.... however for that price you get to fish a heck of a lot more waters than what is offered in VT. VT would lose out if prices went up to that cost. If I had my choice id pick NY over VT if both were the same.
