7/18/2016 day of rest today after targeting lakers and salmon all weekend back at a little catfishing. set up two cat rods at 6.45 am in a different area in 4 fow and stained conditions. fished 2 hours with no runs at all so i decided to go home and catch up on some lawn care around the house. did have 2 real nice fish surface right near the boat but because of the stained water couldnt tell what they were.

7/19/2106 wayne joined me this morning for a little catfishing. started fishing at 6:45 pm in a brisk north wind and gusty. anchored in 3 foot of stained water hoping we find a hole to fish in. 7:05 am a run but not a good one set the hook and fish on got it out of the weeds and off it came. more than likely a bowfin. then at 7:30 am i had another not so good run and missed it. wayne still not having any luck. then around 8:05 am with the wind really picking up i heard my cat rod banging behind me turned around quickly and my rod was airborn heading for the broad lake just caught it by the end of the handle and held on as tight as i could and the cat came off taking my bait and straightened my hook right out. what happened is the wind blew extra line off the spool and was wrapped around the reel. i was very lucky to save the rod and the reel dont know what would have happened if the cat didnt let loose. little later wayne got his ist run and it buried irself in the jungle weeds and wayne could not get it up or even out. we both pulled on the line and finally retreived it minus the fish and bait. no runs the next 2 hours and we went home.
i went back tonight for two hours with 2 runs . landed a small bowfin and missed the other run. full moon now. ugh.

7/20/2016 got out in my boat at 6:35 am this morning and set the anchors at 6:45 am . set my ist cat rod out and started to put a bait on it when the ist rods line was going like it was on fire. set the hook and fish on i land a small but feisty catfish.. a great start baited my 2nd rod threw it out re baited the ist rod and got that back in the water and it wasnt 5 minutes it takes off again set the hook and fish on i land another catfish about 2 inches bigger than the ist. got both rods set up and then at 7:45 am another run on the same rod and this time i miss and it stole my bait. then i went until 8:50 am and a slow run that was acting really funny so i had the feeling it was a fin as they can be very unpredictable. set the hook after awhile and nothing kept setting it though as i know fins will never be where you think they are. the 2nd time felt the fish so i kept winding the slack as much as fast as i could then i connected it was under the boat and it front of the boat wrapped around the anchor. let some slack out hoping it would free it self and it did and took off good thing these reels have good drags on them because this fin was very angry and wanted out of under the boat. after a few minutes landed this 30 inch fin took a quick pic got the hook out and didnt have to put him out of the boat as he jumped clear of the boat and back in the water. have had several do this the last few years. then at 9:40 am another run on the same rod and a miss. finally at 10:35 am the 2nd rod finally gets a run and fish on another fin 27 inches. went home at 11 am since it is my granddaughters birthday.

Good thing you got the boots on with those fins, I fish barefoot a lot but never boated one. They say they can do some serious damage?

very serious damage if they look up at you be ready. there is a way to grab them by the side of the head but holding them is the next thing.

7/21/2016 set the anchors at 7 am and set 2 cat rods out. left at 10:30 am with only 1 run landed a small fin. when looking at the moon last night knew this morning would be tough fishing. saw one fin bust water and 1 carp and that was it. the norm is to see big fish busting water all morning. going to head back out in the morning and wayne is supposed to join me.

7/22/2016 wayne joined me for some catfishing today. we set anchors at 6:35 am and 6:50 am wayne has a good run and says when do i close the bail i said when it slows downs or stops. after peeling off 125 feet it slowed and wayne set the hook and fish on. wayne lands his ist catfish ever and says boy that gets your adrenalin going. wayne is going to eat this one so in the cooler it went. 7:15 am wayne has another strong run even stronger than the ist sets the hook and misses. same hole same rod. then things cooled and the wind got stronger and very gusty so i told wayne lets swing the boat the other way and we did. at 9:15 am wayne has another strong run in the different hole and really takes off . after peeling off about 150 feet and was close to shore wayne sets the hook and fish on only to lose it to the jungle weeds. wayne after setting the hook dropped his rod and tried reeling it and the catfish got down in the jungle weeds then wayne was fighting both the cat and the jungle weeds. wayne says lesson learned and these cats really get your adrenalin going wow. no more runs for the morning. i had two cat rods set and no runs wayne had one cat rod set and 3 runs. i was very happy for wayne on his ist catfish. :D
here is wayne with his ist catfish that he is going to eat.
