Hi
I am new to salmon fishing and I plan to take advantage of the free fishing day in Vermont this Saturday but would like advice on where to fish and how deep. I will stay on the North East side of the lake East of North and South Hero between Butler Island and Savage Island.
Where should I go and how deep should I place my downriggers. If you have favorite lure I can take a few advice as well. I was suggested a few small realistic rappala type lure so far.
Thanks!

Salmon should still be in the top 30' or so of the water column. All we've been using lately is spoons, like Speedy Shiner, Mooselook, Sutton, etc. Anything from 2-3" long should work fine. They are feeding primarily on alewives, so something with some black, purple and/or pink has been working. Dodgers and flies are always an option, but I haven't tried them yet.
East side of Savage and up and down the Georgia/Milton shoreline would be a good place to start.
Good luck!

Thanks! Should I stay close to the side of the Island or should I go in the middle of the lake? How deep it should be where I fish? Should I fish 30ft down where the lake is only 70ft deep or 30f down where the lake is 100ft deep? Thanks again!

This time of the year I would troll the top 30 feet of water in water 60 to 80 feet of water, either side of the deep water trough between Savage and the Georgia Shore. Don't waste a lot of time if you don't mark fish above 30 ft. or chase fish that you mark down below 40 feet. Fish spoons in purple/pink although some silver might help.

Go to Back Country Sports in St Albans. They can help you with some small spoons.
The area you mention is called the Inland Sea or Northeast Arm. Fish along the shore line known as Georgia shore (the eastern most shore line on the mainland side). I would stay in water 60 feet deep or deeper and run lines 20 to 35ish down. You should pick up fish. Good luck!

Catch and serve with lemon.
