I knew the ice was too thin to drive on ;)
No matter how busy the ramp gets, you need to take your time. Too many things can go bad real fast if you rush. Glad she was ok.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will go buy a boat.

This almost happened to me this winter. I was backing in to trailer my boat at Converse. I have a Jeep Rubicon with manual 6 speed with 'hill start assist'- When stopped on a grade the brakes engage for a couple of seconds to allow you to disengage the clutch without rolling back. So I put it in N and pulled the parking brake up. I guess I didn't pull hard enough on the brake to hold it on the ramp with a trailer on. I stepped out and the hill strart bake released - it started rolling. I quickly jumped back in and brought it under control.

The lesson learned -

Leave in in gear, set the brake, shut off engine. Belt and suspenders

Fortunately it didn't make the news.

Ha Ha!

I remember having a starter quit once at a ramp with no one else around. Waterbury Res I think? Tried to roll backwards down the ramp to start the engine. Popped the clutch and reminded myself that doesn't work well in reverse and wound up rolling fast backwards- I popped it the second time with water coming over the back of the rig and it fired. Kicked myself in the butt all the way home for even trying that but by the time I arrived I was patting myself on the back for making it work- but I will never do that again! Walking is better than swimming...
