Towed boat from Conn. to Otter Creek to open our camps last Friday. Just
out of Hartford hit wall-to-wall traffic tie up all the way to Springfield (over an
hour). Outside of Chester, looked in the rearview mirror to discover my wind- shield had vibrated loose and nearly falling off. Thank God for bunjee cords. Held it together for the rest of the weekend. Didn't get to Vergennes until 2:00 pm. Beautiful weather. Both camps in great shape. Got some groceries then tryed to start generator. Wouldn't keep going except on full choke (for a short time) - I guess stale gas from last October, even with treatments. No lights, no heat, but a warm sleeping bag made it bearable.
Next morning found flat tire on boat trailer. Went to Eriksens Marine, Rte 7,
Ferrisburgh, for a replacement tire. No luck. But the owner was great. He
spent a half hour calling places trying to find me a tire. Got a "yes" from
Rouses in Middlebury, so off we went. We were in and out in about 20 minutes - great service for a busy Saturday. FINALLY got the boat launched
at Converse in late afternoon. Man it was COLD out there. Heard Fathead,
Instigator and some others talking about their conquests. This was my shakedown cruise so I strayed no further than Thompson's Point whilel I
checked everything out.
Didn't get skunked, thanks to a 7-lb. laker that took a white/red dot moose-luck. Docked just ahead of Jeremy. My buddy chatted with him about his
fantastic day on the water while I locked up my boat. Sorry I didn't get the
chance to join the conversation, but I was chilled to the bone and fighting
a call from mother nature.
Back at camp, put new gas in the generator but still no luck. Then the rain
started so I gave up. Returned home Sunday am. Good news is, the boat
ran great. I'll be back soon, with more daylight hours to work on the generator
and more time to spend on the water. Now I must get to work on that
windshield.

Just a suggestion that I hope will help. Maybe you already know these things- don't mean to be assumptive.edthehook wrote:...Wouldn't keep going except on full choke (for a short time) - I guess stale gas from last October, even with treatments...put new gas in the generator but still no luck...
Step one - check for water and apply isopropyl.
Step two- it might not be the gas itself but instead what the gas did from the sounds. Drain the carb and pull the float valves and needles - clean and check for yuck. Replace the fuel lines if there is yuck, and maybe install a little fuel filter just ahead of the carbs while you are at it.
Good luck with it and I am glad your boat was trouble free: ALWAYS a blessing!
