Well I guess I can use some input
I have to replace the cable on my downriggers. I thought it was a pretty straight forward task
I found out that there are at least 3 kinds of cable to chose from ( maybe more )
Regular 150# stainless, Nylon coated stainless, and Braided
They say that the braided hangs straighter and you don't get the hum and bubbles.
Anyone have any thoughts or experience with the different types.

Re: Downrigger Cable
I'd stick with the 150 stainless, the coated is for transmission of signals through the cable like a Moore or a Cannon speed and temp display, I have no experience with the dyneema stuff but I think it would wear from abrasion really soon. how about you other fisherpersons???

Re: Downrigger Cable
Stainless for me. Bass Buddy was running braided last year or the year before...not sure if he still is.
Bass Buddy, you out there?

Re: Downrigger Cable
I have one Big Jon rigger with cabelas kevlar braided cable. It is quiet and works well but is smaller in diameter than steel. My Roemer releases don't lock down on it very well and slide up the cable unless I pinch a split shot on the cable to keep it in place. I'm considering switching back to steel.
