MEXICO BAY 4/19 AND 4/20

Post by bhf76 »

Fished Mexico Bay with my brother and dad over the weekend. Saturday was windy with 2-3 foot waves out of the west. Trolled along the shoreline and found the stained water and went 13 for 13. Best depth that day was 11-13 ft. Planer boards with leadcore 1.5 to 2 colors back and flatlined rapalas, michigan stingers and large speedy shiners at least 60' to 100' back. Orange with black dot speedy, black/silver f11 rapalas and green colored spoons seem to work best. Caught a couple on wonderbread and watermelon michigan stinger as well. Sunday was as calm as can be and sunny. We managed 3 more, all browns both days. Used same setup as the day before fishing the 11-13 FOW, but I'm thinking we should have tried deeper since it was sunny and calm. The trick is to find the stained water and stick by it as most of our hits were near it. Most boats were in closer at about 8 FOW, but we were catching em so thats where we stayed. Most were cookie cutters but we caught 3 that were 6 lbs or more. The bite is def. on and we did well for newbies. We learner the hard way that calm and sunny isn't exactly prime fishing conditions for trout and salmon. Good luck fishing this year guys and gals. Be safe!!

Hope you can get out soon. Now is the time to be out there. It seems to better when there is some chop to the water rather than sunny and calm. Lead core was pretty deadly for us flatlining and on the boards.
