Ontario trip Sept. 3-6th....

Post by digitroll (ron) »

Day 1 Pulaski NY. Arrived at noon today and set lines down around 2:00 pm. in 120 feet to 140 feet of water 6 miles out. Started out slow with 1 salmon by 4:00 pm and not marking much on the sonar in search mode. Then all hell broke loose for the next 2 hours going 6/10 on salmon. Lost some tackle and flasher flies.. but that's part of the game. Quit at 6:30 pm. Tomorrow looks like a blow day with thunderstorms and rain in the am followed by a big west blow. Back out Thursday for round 2. A great start for our trip!

This 33 lb corker was landed by Jamie Chalmers today! I had the thrill of netting it!

You guys should head over to Cayuga and hit the Landlocks on the days when you can not get out on the big pond

That is a great suggestion to try Cayuga! It's an hour and a half away. :)

Looks like fun Ron.... love the boat!!! Wonder if it is pain to trailer? That would jump from fishing in the keys 3 mo a year to trolling salmon while lake Champlain is NOT frozen well... gonna need one like that in a few years when I retire...

Thanks for the looks...

9/5/19 Day 2 of our Lake Ontario adventure.... Started out very slow the first 4 hours this am. as a result of the big winds yesterday sitting on the shore yesterday waiting for the winds from hell to abate. About 10:30 am we found some traction landing 4 salmon in 1 hour finishing 6/6. Heading back out for the evening bite soon.

This evening: Started 4 pm and fished until 6:45 pm. 6/6 and finished 12/12 for today. Split shift is a great strategy instead of staying out all day. Hit both peak times to catch fish.

That last picture was a 6 lb Smallmouth this guy weighed in while we were getting our fish cut up at the cleaning station. I witnessed it being weighed. Unreal!

Another great am sunrise on Lake Ontario with flat conditions. Fishing started out slow and by 8:00 am there was at least 100 boats in view. Wind blew up by 9 am and we exited to get off the water. Finished 3 / 3. We have been doing catch and release on the last 6 fish. We have enough for the guys to bring home and smoke.

See what happens for today late afternoon! 4 turns out in last 3 days. 21/24. So far a great success!

It's a wrap on our weekday Lake Ontario annual fishing trip arriving home last night at 8 pm. after making great time pulling Dave's big 24 ft hardtop in 5 hours from Pulaski, NY! Fished 2 out of 3 days landing 21 salmon and losing only 4. Here are some photos I took with my good camera. Jaime helped out his friend Chad Lambert on Thursday jumping on his boat at the ramp. Some photos I took of his boat. Thanks to Jan Stromme / Dave McGinnis / Jaime Chalmers. The highlight of the trip was the 33 lb monster Jaime landed the first night on Tuesday which was the largest salmon I have ever seen come aboard any boat I have fished on in 40 years personally on Lake Ontario. What a way to start a trip in the first 3 hours!
