Reelaxing day in inland sea 8/9/11

Post by Reelax »

In the past week I have been able to get the new wheels, letters and the new trolling motor on the boat... It now looks a little different.... :)

After running the trolling motor in a 55 gal can for 10 min, it was ready for lake trials... Theresa and I decided to hit the Inland Sea for a cruise and maybe a little salmon action..

We got to Apple Island at 8:45am to see NO boats out, and the water flat and wind very calm... Lake surface temps were between 75 and 78 deg with mixed clouds...

We setup on the cowbanks with 2 riggers with bling and sliders, One at 45ft and the other at 55ft. We also had 2 slide divers out, both 20ft back
and one with 150ft of line and one with 200ft out.

The new Nissan 9.8hp pushed the boat between 2 and 3mph at about 1/4 trottle, with no issues. Steering and trottle control were very manageable and the kicker bracket on the boat worked fine. We used about 2 gal of gas in just over 6hrs of trolling, so she seems to be saving $$ already.

Couldn't mark/hit anything under these birds working the surface? Both Cormerants and Gulls feeding on something.... But no one home by the time we arrived...

The action was steady and the sun was hot.. We put over 10 salmon in the boat between 9am and noon around the cow banks, rangeing between 12 and 20", 3 of them jumping multiple times during the fight. Riggers and divers both did multiple fish, as did most colors we used..

Mottled green Mp6 Honey Bee was probably the best lure of the day.
- A favorite of Thorny's.... -

After a while, Eagle Mtn started callin to us.. We did a slow troll over to the East side and found lots of perch.. Both yellow and white... We did find a few salmon mixed in...

Also some small mouths, down around 50ft over 120 FOW...

The action was better on the West side, so we headed back.. Around 3pm, we decided to call it a day as the active storms started coming up the lake... All in all, it was a good time, with all systems working well for another trip on the new boat.... We ended up with14 salmon, 4 small mouth, 3 yellow perch and 4 white perch... All released to grow bigger.

Maybe this weekend, we will try an overnight trip on the lake and even TGT some walleyes...

Tightlines to all...
