Cold water grand slam with a cool water twist

Post by Reelax »

Theresa and I got out on the water Monday late, but we figured better than not at all...
We put in at Apple Island, and found nice smooth conditions with little wind and lots of sun.
Headed to the outter bay to setup for a scouting mission...
Didn't mark much bait, with surface temps around 68deg..
We slid over in front of the Lamoile with 1 rigger with cheater, 2 slide divers and some lead core out to see who was hungry...
All of a sudden the slide diver fires at 95ft of line out, back 25' and we have a nice pulling fish on...
Fights like a laker, but in the outter bay that can mean dinner! After a few minutes.........
I slip the net under Theresa's personal best Walleye....
(1st walleye we have ever gotten on a slide diver!)

Looked pretty spawned out at 4.8lb, but had great length at 25.5"...
We couldn't resist putting him in the cooler for dinner...
He hit on a very reliable Honey Bee MP6 Raz gave me,
one of the three amigo's... (brass with green and orange stripe)

With the cold water fish not looking for what we were offering,
after an hour of trying we decided to hit the main lake and headed
for the opening in the fill...

We setup next to Carleton's prize in 65fow and headed for the deeper water in the middle of the lake...
After getting fully setup, I have some time to rest and take in the beautiful lake with the wife...
Over the next 4hrs we fished between Stave and Saywer and had a ball..
All fish were taken between 100 and 160fow around 20-35feet down...

1st to fire was this Honey Bee #1 at 30ft off a rigger...
It was running with green and black blades to finish the look

This fish was a fighter, seems like steelie as she keeps rocketing into the air....
She goes on a couple of nice runs with each finished up with a little air show...
After calming her down some, Theresa does an excellent job with the net and we have a nice 23" Steelhead aboard...

(This is the 3rd nice chunk of chrome we have gotten from this section of water in the last week! What a fishery...)

Well, with all the action, we decided to try to work on a slam...

Yea, how do you really work on a slam?

Next came bunch of smaller but fun lakers...

By this time, we were swapping reports with RazzleDazzle over by Valcour, and he headed over to join the fun..

He quickly hooked into a nice salmon...

Next, it was Theresa's turn...
I put a Crazy Ivan Frostbite Orange out 100ft on a slide diver and was hoping for a Brown or Salmon... ;D

Within a few minutes....
[glow=red,2,300]Wham! [/glow]The diver rod is taking line.....

After a couple of trips to the transom, we are figuring Brownie
due to this puppy staying down, but fighting like a bull...
At the net, she ran across the rigger cable and had to be coaxed back with the net..
Finally, I scoop up Theresa's 1st brown of the year!

After this, we were not leaving the lake until we finished the Gran slam...

It wasn't long until we boated a salmon to finish it off...

What a day...
Walleye, Steelhead, Brown trout, Salmon, Laker Trout all in the same general area, all within about 4hrs...

We ended up with 3 salmon, 4 lakers, 1 walleye, 1 steelie, 1 Brown. (and a few perch that came as we picked up)

Great time with Raz and Cathy, as they fished along side us and shared the fun...

On the way in as we went thru the fill, we got hailed by a forum member...
[glow=red,2,300]Ahoy! [/glow]There is BrownTown with family doing a little bass fishing board his beautiful Trophy Pro...
After a nice chat we headed in for the day, hot and tired...

Fish on!
