New or used outboard parts

Post by Pcraft237 »

I need a rectifier for a Honda 50 hp. Found correct rectifier on Honda site and one other but both unavailable. Haven’t been able to find correct aftermarket replacement. Tried eBay and Amazon. Can anyone suggest where to find one new or used?

Try Toms marine in Vergennes. He's a Honda dealer and might be able to help

Try Bob's Boat Repair in Grand Isle. 802 372-5437 They have all sorts of parts for new and old engines. I've used them in the past. A good source for all kinds of stuff.

Thanks for the information, I’ll be checking both places this week. I really appreciate the help.
Was set for a 4 day fishing trip to middle Saranac Lake beginning Labor Day. An annual thing I’ve been doing since I got the boat 12 years ago.
Maybe next year.

Try "Boats.net". They had a part for my 1984 7.5hp Honda. They also have full parts lists for about every make / model / year. Very helpful.

Yeah found exact part number needed on boat.net Hit purchase and balloon popped up, item not available. Thanks though. I spoke Tuesday with Honda Marine, they no longer make that rectifier. Sorry. But tech where I get service felt he could figure something out.
I wrote an email to Honda letting them know wasn’t happy having to junk a 10 yr old outboard for a $100 part. Got a call from Honda informing me that their tech has a solution, a wire harness and something else. They’re contacting my service tech to send the needed parts.
A big relief. Hope it happens quickly I want to fish.

I'm a little late to the party here, but, if you need a component like a rectifier, stator, switchbox, etc, and your manufacturer doesn't make it anymore, chances are CDI electronics has the design, and manufactures their own replacement version. They also repair things like that if you send it to them, if they don't manufacture their own version. I just bought a power pack from them for a '94 Nissan 9.9. Same thing, nobody in the world has one.

Only problem is though is the price. Expensive.

Thanks for the advice, unfortunately another informed me if CDI. However upon calling they said they were unable to help. They don’t have the specifications needed.
As of now Honda says they have a fix, they will sell me part but not info needed to make it work on my motor. They will only give needed information to a Honda dealer. My boat was purchased through a Honda dealer but they were forced to drop Honda when they lost their factory in Japan. As a result no motors, no parts so dealer was forced to buy from a different manufacturer. Honda couldn’t supply what was needed. So head of service is looking for fix and I’m trying to convince Honda to help out with the problem. So I wait.
Thanks for offering help.

Model is BF50AKO. Serial number BAZS-3704522.
Original part number is 31750-ZW4-013. I appreciate any help.
It may be I need to bring it to Honda dealer in Vergennes. So much simpler for Honda to get on board with helping.

Sometimes these parts get superseded by new parts, that do the same thing. Sometimes the older parts are available, when the new ones aren't. Usually I try to find both obsolete and new part numbers on a marine parts site. Like this one,

https://peparts.honda.com/marine#/serial

In case that link doesn't work...

Go to peparts.honda.com

On that site when you enter your serial number prefix (letters) and the 7 digit numbers from your serial, it gives you a diagram list. Go to the regulator section, and it has two part numbers for the same part. The one you have,

31750-ZW4-013

and another one which is

31750-ZW4-003

Different by 1 number there. Google that part number, you get some more results you didn't have. I found this one:

https://www.lawnmowerpros.com/detail.as ... 50-ZW4-003

If you can find old part numbers, superseded part numbers, new part numbers, but they're all the same thing, search them all on Google. Sometimes you get lucky.

Hope this helps.

Here's another possibility for cheaper?

https://www.partstree.com/search/?w4r=1 ... 50-z2e-803

Sometimes though, if it's a rare item like this though, they don't have it in stock even if the site says they do. But that's a few things to try.

Thanks for all the help. I’ll check it out. Since Honda says they have a fix I may bring it to Vergennes as someone suggested.
