Rowboat Report - 7/3/2021

Post by Dilly Worm »

Dark cloudy sky, light rain, light & variable wind - good day for some afternoon fishing. Put in at Arnold Bay and rowed around in my usual way, with one lead-core line straight off the stern and the other on an inline planer board. The lake is really warming up fast. 66 F at the surface, I don't have a FishHawk in the rowboat so I just looked at the fishfinder and ran lines at different depths to see where the fish were.

The large Honeybee in white & mottled pink/purple did well the last time I got out in this weather, so it went on the main line w/ 11 colors of lead. A CI Green Flash (thanks Popster !) went on the planer board line with 5 colors, but it turned out only yellow perch were biting at that depth. I couldn't get that line any deeper with the equipment I had.

The one good fish of the day was a nice 19", 3-lb salmon that hit the HB in about 180 FOW by the NY side. Fun challenge reeling in 11 colors of lead trying to keep up with a fish that swam toward the boat the whole time, plus enough fleas that they bolloxed-up the uni knot where the lead connects with the leader, but the fish stayed on.

I do not exaggerate when I talk about fishing - I underestimate, like I say "just one more cast honey, then I'll come home" !
Keep Calm and... Fish On !

Nice salmon, and nice simple setup in your rowboat.
