Willsboro 6/25-27
This is my first time fishing this area. We got a late start Friday and only had a couple hours to fish in the morning. It was just my wife and I in the morning. So I set up 2 riggers and 2 slide divers and went back and forth along the wall. The wind made it too choppy for my wife on the main lake. We had 1 or 2 hits and nobody home. After a little while I checked rods and we had a hitchhiker it was a 15” laker. Decided to set back up for the last 15 minutes we had and the rigger fires and it’s a 5lb3oz laker. This happens to be the biggest fish my wife has ever caught. We had to pack up and leave. We came back out in the evening with our daughter. This time I set stackers on the riggers and slide divers. Did a similar program and got nothing.
Saturday morning we set out again wind was still too much so we did the same thing. We got 3 lakers 16-20” we fished from 7:30-12. Did not go back out for the evening.
Sunday we got back at it and the sun was actually out and it was a little warmer than Saturday. Again we picked up 3 lakers 16-20” all along the wall.
We fished with riggers @ 65-95 down stackers were 20’ up from the ball. I set one 10’ above the other so I had the lures every 10’ and slide divers 25-35 down. Speed was 2.6-2.7. Lures ran the gamut because I let my wife and daughter select most of them and they like to pick the pretty ones!
All in all an ok trip and someone might had gotten in a couple boat naps!! P. S. They are the best naps in my opinion.

I don't care what anybody says, there's nothing like catching a bunch of Lakers with kids and less experienced anglers in the boat. I have brought a bunch of people out who have caught their biggest fish of their lives, and they've all been lake trout. Well, 1 carp I guess.
Nice work.

Nice!
Did you have any fleas? Plan on going out on Monday July 5 to Willsboro or Essex and would like to know what I'm getting myself into.....

There were fleas. I was running 20# on the slide divers and 30# on the riggeres. The only places they seemed to be were at my knots/ swivels/ snaps and where the line went threw the slide divers.

Thanks for the report .Great to see kids fishing. I also fish out of Willsboro and I did have a lot of local guys who shared info with me when I came up for a few days. Ad to say most have moved or passed away. Now it takes a day or two to find where and what their hitting. The Forum is a great help in giving info to help to other guys even if they fish VT waters. The more we share the better it is for everyone. Good luck

nice report, good to see your daughter catching some lakers, and congrats to your wife on her biggest fish yet !
I do not exaggerate when I talk about fishing - I underestimate, like I say "just one more cast honey, then I'll come home" !
Keep Calm and... Fish On !

Thanks for the report. I’ve just moved from fishing out of Westport to WillsboroBay/point area. Found lots of fleas. With a suggestion from a nice fellow in Dattillio’s I purchased 40 lb test and and pulled out some larger sized barrel swivels I had around for the front of leader. The fleas do cover the braided downrigger line I use.
