Saturday trolling
Saturday trolling
Headed out of Westport set up and headed north to Rock Harbor. Nothing happening so decided to head to Split Rock where I picked up lakers on Thursday. Put away 3 rods, popped the last off of downrigger when a decent laker hit and was released. Got to the Split to find water temp at 42-43 degrees, colder than Thursday. So headed east in search of warmer temps. Picked up another laker, then two decent salmon. Then back to a few more lakers. Trolling with spoons, a Crazy Ivan sausage gravy got mauled along with a Slammer spoon I’ve had over 20 years.

When the spoon looks like that...it's a good one!
Catch and serve with lemon.

Re: Saturday trolling
thanks for this report. I got the "its not just me" feeling from reading it, like you we had nothing happening Saturday south of about Diamond island. North of there the lakers were mauling our spoons too !
I do not exaggerate when I talk about fishing - I underestimate, like I say "just one more cast honey, then I'll come home" !

Love the beatup spoons. Wish many of mine had more biting scratches on them.... proves they are effective.

I agree and probably one of my go to Crazy Ivan’s along with the phantom I keep about 6-8 each on deck so I’m never without.

Re: Saturday trolling
Got to thinking about the lures I’ve used for trolling through the years. Go to spoons were little cleos, wobble rites, and red and white daredevles.
Rapalas, especially small ones were a go to, larger models as the season progressed. I used evil eyes as a go to spoon for years as well.

Me too. Kind of like when you get "Bass Thumb" when you've had a good day bass fishing. Liam was so excited a few years back when we caught 20 or so in a day, and his thumbs were all rough from their teeth.Gecha (Gerry) wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 10:42 am Love the beatup spoons.
