Oh... the inland sea... she is alive!!!!

Post by Reelax »

Hit the north lake late at 830am this morning with Dreamcatcher aboard and we picked up light and variable on the shoreline... once Jeff jumped aboard the action began... we were running 2 riggers at 20 with blades and 10 ft back.. cheater up 4 ft and back. 3ft. The slide diver were back 50 ft and down 60/65 or so.. we finished the set with long line mini divers on inline planers, one with a small stick and the other with a dodger and fly back 110ft...

All the sets had action today but by far the riggers set with cheaters were the solid winner for number of fish.... at points both sides fired and fish were jumping within 30ft of the back of the boat before we could get to a rod!

I had gotten a hot tip on location, depth and spoon selection from a good friend the night before so when Jeff took the helm he had a set made for a king...

Bam, bam, bam, salmon, salmon, salmon... 17” low end, 27+? On the high end..... the biggest salmon of the day straightened a split ring after a great battle and many leaps right in he spread... :?

Almost all today’s fish jumped and many of them multiple times.... they have plenty of energy right now. I use small blades on both riggers and that made the difference attracting the fish. ;)

Best spoon was the blue moon Crazy Ivan followed by the bomb pop..and the Phantom..

Dodger and fly fired but we never landed a fish with it

Today’s bbq started with hot dogs and finished with hot Italian sausage... nothing thing fancy today but it kept us going till late enough to get the counter over 17... best thing it was ALL SALMoN...: :o

Yes they are in the north, yes there are pigs... love this lake... :)

Fish on!

Great report Matt and epic day for salmon. The DYP us going to fall right in prime time Salmon season. I remember a couple of season ago where one salmon came to the weigh in at the DYP. That ain't going to happen this year!

I do not exaggerate when I talk about fishing - I underestimate, like I say "just one more cast honey, then I'll come home" !

Nice going, Matt and crew! My son and I did an evening cruise Friday and only landed 2, but also missed a few others. The 2 we landed were 8" and 15". That fresh stockie was a cute little guy!

Looks like a great day. Nice fish and good looking eats. Were you using blades on the rigger or your line? Thanks Phil

That'll teach me to go to the gym early on Saturday without my phone. Sorry I missed the message, but if you keep giving L&V rides like that, maybe he'll reconsider selling his boat! Sounds like you were on 'em. Great intel! "Straightened a split ring"? Not on a glass rod! What happened?

It was around a slide diver line.... and flipped his tail to run after seeing the net and. And unbuttoned... The slide diver line wrap caused 100% drag when he ran... all I know is the duo snap was still closed at the end of the leader and the spoon was gone;(

Fish off!

:) As always, thoroughly impressed! I really enjoy the details, especially how you change your spread to adjust to the certain conditions and locations you are encountering. This trolling spread was like night to day compared to your last post of successful fishing.
Am I reading it correctly, that you were pretty tight to the boat? And hitting them at 20' down?
Did you get a weight on that 27"?

Questions, Questions, Questions?? :) :D I know, but to be better at this game, you gotta pay attention, ask questions and learn from the best!

Really great post, and extremely envious!! ;)

Yes riggers with spoons tight. Blades help as these fish are ravenous and will leave the bait ball to find the source of the clatter..

15-25 down will work. We got half our fish on the cheater set 3’ above the blades, 3’ back:)
