Any launches open??

Post by Reelax »

Looking to fish Sunday, hopefully the weather between now and then will open up some launches....

Does anyone know the status of

1- Coast guard launch in Burlington.
2- Converse bay
3- Arnold’s bay

Thanks for any info...

Sure is going to be Next Month before Converse south sees open water.

We used to launch my 16 ft Sylvan at Shelburne Beach but usually needed waders and shoveling skill and a roller trailer.

Salmon around Meach Island and North side of Wings point.

Ice in Arnold Bay looks like it will be around for a while too. Seems like the wind blew slabs of ice into the bay a couple weeks ago and they've refrozen there. Unfortunately its not great for ice fishing access either, because the ice gets thin quickly once outside the little bay itself...
I do not exaggerate when I talk about fishing - I underestimate, like I say "just one more cast honey, then I'll come home" !

Shelburne is normally snowed in near that ramp in the old days. It's a shelburne resident (pass or sticker on bumper) launch. No wiggle room for them.

Shelburne beach is right across the street from the shop I work out of. It has open water a couple hundred feet out, but, like Arnolds bay, the ice that is there is blown in and really thick, there's no getting through it.

On the sticker thing though, the kids they hire to sit in the folding chair to keep Non-Shelburne people out usually don't show up until late May or June. However, that launch is always really shallow. Worse than converse was a few months ago.

Thanks Jack for the update. I am hoping for the 21st of March like last year for an early splashdown at Converse.

Port Douglas: Mapquest 53 miles from Essex Jct. 1.5 hours including Ferry Grand Isle. Guessing $60 Ferry with Truck and Trailer round trip. 3 hours travel. Taking route 9 south to Keeseville from Cumberland Head.

Thanks for the update Ben... Ron I have to admit port Douglas looks good, if the salmon were hot it would be a plan...

Fathead sent me a pic of a guy fishing tip ups on Converse bay this morning.... the snow bank will require a plow, and I am not sure I can maneuver between the tip ups in the ice... so we really need some wind...

Lots can change in 2 days...

Hope

Still alive

Matt, I don’t know how the launch looks but I’m thinking you should just bring the tipups for a backup plan!
