Laker Bowl

Post by Reelax »

Dave Adams, Thorny and I launched at 1st light from converse on super bowl Sunday. Launch was iced in with a 1/2” to 1” sheet out about 200 yards or so. Dave arrived early and proceeded to clear a hole to back boat into. Once the motor was under the ice, throttling up on the trailer blew it all out to a 40’ hole big enough to launch. With Country Angler right behind us we broke ice about 1/3rd the way to picket island before finding open water..

No much too much to report here, we landed nothing but lakers all day. Menu consisted of hot dogs, chicken wings and marinated venison chops.

Water temp was 35-36 and by 9am we had 3 foot rollers in the main lake. Whalons provided some cover. After eating too much and telling many stories and having so many laughs my stomach hurt, we called it early around 1pm to prep for the football game..

I’d tell ya what the hot spoon was but who cares if it could only get lakers to play.

Not sure where the salmon are... next trip will target fishville to see what is going in down there.

Glad to read some fishing reports.
Even if only lakers are bitting, it's a lot more action than seating home watching tv.
Nice pics.
Thanks for the posts.

Super Bowl Sunday was always a great ski day, because crowds were down. Yet at O'Dark, lying in bed, I got a text "ping." My first thought was Thorny and he's "Early Fishing" Damn Him. But I figured he'd be on the slopes. Soon I realized he was "early Fishing" Now I realize the whole crew and understand his decision. Great effort. When I shared the "Laker Laker" report just before noon, my wife laughed, as she knew that I wished to be out there, but she shared her sympathies for the crew too. Good effort, lakers aside. I must have missed the venison pics, but I trust you! Great effort guys!

I didn't even know it was the Superbowl yesterday, until I heard the guy on the radio talking about it this morning. Guess I'm not a big ball sports fan, haha.

It did get breezy out there about the time it was time to head in didn't it? At that point we were just fishing Converse anyway.

Good report guys, we'll see you out there again .

Gotta love crazy frostbiters, really would be a ball if I lived closer. Spent that morning from 5:30 till noon standing in 0 temps on hard water for notta... great trip just as well, love them adams farm wings?!... so good paired with Teresa's hot sauce. Slime atleast always makes the stern entertaining! Been awhile since I been on LCU. Will post what our seasons been off Champy soon

You have an uncanny ability to see more than what is there Andy!!! Yes it was Adams Turkey farm.....young wings, with Theresa’s custom Fletcher Pepper sauce... Capt Thorny even went home with his very own jar of Sauce....

Look forward to any input on your fishy updates you can send from the southern end of the state.

Fish on!

Matt,

Can I use your photos for a Podcast on Frostbite fishing late this summer early Fall? Good grilling and launching / breaking ice photos.

No problem Ron, use as you see fit.... I am still looking to down load a raw video to youtube to show the ice breaking run out to Picket... What a racket to plow thru ICE in an Aluminum boat
