Snowy MLK day 2021
Decided late after weighing all the conditions to go for it since it had been 2 weeks since Reelax last got a bath and the new studded snows should help with the conditions..
With 2” of fresh snow and temps around 34, decided to leave the plow on for the extra ballast and if the ramp needed some clearing it would be useful later.
Today’s crew included Dave Foundry and Dreamcatcher (Ken). The bbq line up was hot dogs and bbq’ed venison blackstrap.
The surface temp was 40.5 deg at surface and ran that same temp as far down as we looked, 120ft...
Today’s best spoons were the purple people eater Honey Bee and the always active sausage gravy milk shake as well as a few other Crazy Ivan spoons that always fire.
We ran riggers from 40 to 110 down with cheaters tight about 8 ft up from our main set line. Slide divers were back about 80 and down between 80 and 160 for depths in the 25 to 50 range. The slide divers were very active and probably took double digit fish between the 2 during the day....
Lake had big 3+ foot swells most of day in main section and we enjoyed the heavy foot of salmon chop in top of the swells... we started around split rock running down to the Unicorn back north into Whalons and into the base of the bay..
So many lake trout it was hard to keep spoons down to attract salmon... any depth fired, seemed 40-60 was hottest area..
On the next sunny day (May?..... May Never???) I am thinking we should run the sunny rocky shoreline shallow program with sticks.... anything to get away from the LAKERS..
When the main lake blew up from the north around noon we tucked behind Thompson’s inside town farm and found silver in 80fow with
A rigger set 48 down... it came on a Phantom from Crazy Ivan! (Thanks for the donation Fathead)
We ran patterns over this area like the RAF over Germany in WWII but only found slime left...
At one point we had a Dilly worm style experience where a slide diver/ dodger and fly set had a hit and line started peeling.... almost spooled on the 1st run Ken started doing circles as I fought that beast for over 15 min... the whole time Dilly’s story from this week is playing in my mind.... sure enough we see a 6ish lb laker hooked by the skin behind the gill coming....
My forearm looked like Popeyes and I was ready to drive only fish we lifted out of the lake all day for a pic....
It was a blizzard when we launched at 1st light but it quickly settled down and most of the day was brisk but enjoyable.
No boats were sighted on the lake from launch time at 7am till we pulled out after 3pm. 8+hrs of trolling with 22 miles covered without running on plane... what a day..
Thanks guys for the great stories and memories. As a wise man once said....” a day fishing adds a day to your life....” We sure added one today

Re: Snowy MLK day 2020
the togue are up to their tricks again btw, the one I had Sunday was also hooked on a dodger/streamer. The difference being I had it on 4 colors of lead instead of a slide diver...Reelax wrote: ↑Tue Jan 19, 2021 6:41 am At one point we had a Dilly worm style experience where a slide diver/ dodger and fly set had a hit and line started peeling.... almost spooled on the 1st run Ken started doing circles as I fought that beast for over 15 min... the whole time Dilly’s story from this week is playing in my mind.... sure enough we see a 6ish lb laker hooked by the skin behind the gill coming....

Almost forgot to show a pic of our wayward wandering during the day... I think you could say we Covered the Trollable spots near Converse..
After a while Kenny said he was building developments on the lake...

Nice report guys.
Love the picture of reelax with snow in her face.
I've owned things that I've babied and didn't use much for fear of cosmetic damage, and I've owned things that get used like reelax gets used.
I've got to say I personally am much happier with using my stuff and beating it up a little, than keeping my car in the garage because it's raining out.
Nice job getting out there.
I think we're going to try and find some ice this weekend. Looks kind of breezy out there the next couple days for trolling.

You're right Matt, there you go.
It looks like Detritus is getting a new home next week. She's moving to lake St. Catherine for her retirement job of Vacation Home Boat. Had a lot of fun with that boat, and caught a lot of fish. I'm sure it will give more of the same to its new owner.

Love the lighting in the avatar pic Jack! The mountains in the background with your boat all lit up looks amazing.

Yeah, that's a great picture. Dilly Worm took that picture south of barber point one day this fall.
