Southend silver

Post by Bearcat »

I launched another solo trip out of Westport this morning and the mid morning bite was pretty strong. Fished above temp at 75’, riggers about 30’ to 40’ back. Cheaters were pretty quiet, most fish came on purple and black crazy Ivan on the main line. Some fleas on the swivels but not too bad, though I didn’t run dipsies today. Over a dozen made it to the boat, some shakers and a few short strikes in about 3 hours. Kept the speed close to 2 1/2 and thankfully only wound up with one laker but it was a big slob and actually put up a decent fight. Biggest salmon was 25 inches and just over 5 pounds. It never jumped, Just stripped line straight to the bottom and dug in. I thought it was a big brown for sure but I was not disappointed. Only one lamprey seen all day and promptly dispatched.

Nice pic of a good size salmon. Looks like you had a good solo run.
