Converse 8/13 Jigging

Post by Kayak19 »

Hit the lake at 0600 this morning and pedalled outside of converse in my kayak for some jigging. Was marking fish in about 80' down and dropping my jig on their head. Caught a small one first. Then bam nice 8lb Laker in the boat. Didn't start really fighting until about 30 ft from the boat. About an hour later another strike and I could immediately tell it was large as it was peeling line out. After a nice fight, 10lb Laker landed!

Caught two more small Lakers after and the bite died for me by 0900 and headed back in. Overall a nice morning jigging and two great fish!

Sounds like a good morning. What are you using for jigs? Metal, hair jigs or ??

We've pulled a couple of 10 lb Lakers over the side of the country angler this year. If I tried that in one of my kayaks, I'm pretty sure I'd tip myself over. Nice job.

Haha, I fish from a really stable fishing kayak so it's not like a dinky piece of plastic! Honestly it was awesome being or there by myself with almost no boats around out near the middle of the lake. Very intimate experience with fish that size! I used to jig Lakers out west when I was a kid, but never any this large.

Just went out again today and saw 3 other kayakers jigging out there as well. Pretty awesome to see other small craft anglers out. Went 3/5 on Lakers today. The 3 I landed were 27", 28" and 29". Great day overall!
