Phantom 2020 LCI derby

Post by FATHEAD »

We started out of Lewis creek at 4 am haven’t not fished since March I didn’t know the water was so low but we made it out of the creek and into deeper water I trim the big motor down and an alarm goes off on the smart control for my Mercury saying fuel pump failure head to shore immediately. Well Kevin and I look at each other and say we still have the kicker motor so we set up at Kingsland and headed south. We made it to the area we wanted to fish. On the 3rd pass we get a hard hit on the rigger 34 feet down. I go to put the auto pilot on and Kevin says it just jumped huge salmon. After a 15 minute battle and clearing all the lines . I put the net under a beautiful 26 inch 9.12 pound salmon. We get it in the livewell and dump 3 bags of ice in there. Well we can only go 6 mph with little motor to weigh station so we call our teammates and they had landed a dandy Steelhead 25 inch 6.52 pounds. So they come over and tow us to the weigh station. We weighed in our fish and put boat back on trailer and head to Toms Marine. Couple hours later we are back in business so we launch out of Otter Creek to test fix on big motor. A ok !!! Sunday was very slow few small salmon and lakers. Then Monday morning I tell Kevin let’s troll with the little motor instead of the big motor like we did Sunday it had brought us luck on the first day. About 620 am Kevin lands a nice 24 inch 6.32 pound salmon. 45 down. Great derby our big fish won the salmon category and the super grand bonus. Our second fish placed 10th and we finished 2nd in the team category. Awesome derby. Spoon is a custom Crazy Ivan !
