Inland sea fun on Monday.
Had Dreamcatcher and Bottomdollar aboard at 6am out of apple island. started trolling right out of the launch which has worked fine all season. Usually pick up a couple before we get the whole 6 rod set in. Today it was slow to start made 3 passes on the cow banks with Nada! Hmmmmm... we rounded cedar after Ken pulled our hardware across sandy bottom just to clean any fleas off I guess...
Once we got to the south east side of fish bladder we found a few pods of active fish and spun on each a few times... picked up 3 in the 1st spot and 2 more in another spot to the north about a mile...
Lots of barren water with no bait til
You find a spot and then... it’s on!
We had 8 salmon in the net before a nice colored brown came to play. Love seeing browns... kept all fish but 2 in net today to ensure good releases. All went back with no problems...
The 2 best spoons today were a gold backed BOMB POP and a blue sheen, both made by Crazy IVAN... thanks Todd...
Around 930 we needed to spice up the bite so we sparked up the grill and threw on some wings.... that always seems to creat action and bam a double! Love it... tasty action....
Later in the day, well past noon... Andy grabs a slide diver that had fired 120 feet out with the extra deep ring... it didn’t fight. Dig down but it was heavy.. weeds??? It turn out to be a real nice 22” walleye that is fat and healty. He could not resist a Crazy Ivan blue sheen at 50ft over 110!!!
If ya wanna see what that walleye ate, watch this video to the end....
https://youtu.be/lcu0iqJfz-g
Well to mark out that occasion we busted out the Italian sausages and bbqed them up to feed the hungry crew... bam... it’s is on again... up north now, betweeen Ladd pt and burton we found another pod of salmon... up this far we picked up 3 shakers In The mix ... but there were bigger fish there too...
By 3pm we were all hot and tired after trolling 9 hrs and eating 2 full meals with the hot sun beating down... having the top up with towels in the windows helps but it gets to you after a awhile. The graph showed a 30 mile troll... enough for one day
**deg was way down to 60-65 feet down by cedar, but up north it was only down 50 ft.. siege effect again... we would have done better to start trolling at fish bladder and stayed north. Good to see Spinner out in his Starcraft and also a couple other trollers for a lightly populated sea today...
thanks Ken and Andy for a great time on the lake... and a am glad we decided to release that eye... he will be much bigger by next year.

Great trip Matt and Ken. An epically long and hot day, but ultimately productive and the grill is awesome! Thanks for the ride!

Congrats on the eye! That’s awesome, what kind of grill is that? I may need to “invest” in one of those.
Thanks for sharing with us you guys really seem to be on the fish!

The grill is a marine model made by magma.. Amazing how you can light it in a 25 mph wind and it never gets blown out...
It was one of the best additions I have ever made to the fishing boat...

Magma grills are awesome. Just be sure to burn off any grease and cool it before stowage. On Serenity our experience seems to be similar to yours .. It's like Thorny's cutting board: Break it out and the rods fire.

Congrats and thanks for sharing a great day of food, laughter and fishing. Interesting point, if my memory serves me well, the marker on your GPS track , that is where my better half caught her 1st salmon (5lbs).
We are planning a trip this Friday to the IS. Tight lines and bent rods.

Caught that eye trolling a spoon 50 ft back on a slide diver down 120 with the rig kit. That puts it about 50 down over 110 feet of water... he was on the hunt in the big water. We see the hooks on the graph from time time to time on the upper inland sea...njg0621 wrote:You caught that eye trolling at 2.8?
Trolling at 2.4mph at ball when it hit... current made 2.8gps
They are there....

Wow great report, that's how a fishing trip should always be. Being able to release that walleye after coming up 50' is great.

Great report, Matt! Sounds like you guys had a good time.
I caught a walleye in the IS a couple of weeks ago while trolling for salmon, too. ~21" long or so. Trolling 2.5mph, 45' down over 90, on a Needlefish! Not exactly traditional walleye gear. He went back to get bigger, too.
