Port Henry

Post by Riverrunt »

Got up a 0230 to drive up to port Henry
This morning, got there just in time
To sign up for the bass tournament today, but i passed on that. I would have been to early for the tournament, except at 0445
A deer decided to commit suicide on the front of my Envoy, which made me late .
So after i finally got headed north out of port Henry , i got out to about 55' of water and started rigging up my first down rigger , in about 17 years maybe 20. Everything was going good till i started looking for my rubber bands, they were two new packages of them on the boat , that i think i bought
At two guy's department store.or joys department store. Just kidding
But they were mostly dry rotted.
But found a few that held up.
So the shake down cruise got underway .
My Suzuki fuel injected four stroke, is new
To me this spring, and has never been trolling on my boat, i put a happy troller
Plate on it. But never uesd it on the river for
Striper fishing.
So i dropped the plate and put the second down rigger down, and checked my speed
Of my hot rod Suzuki, couldn't slow it down
It ran mostly 1.7 1.8. Seen 1.6 once.
So i went with that for now. Made a few lure changes on my port rigger, then went to bring my starboard rigger up dead. Cranked it up, and left it up. Grabbed the rod i true together for dipsy divers, made a leader for that , and sent out back 87 feet from the boat. I marked a lot of fish once i got out to
70 feet + of water everything was hanging
Around 60 to 65 ft even over 180' .
Made a turn to the south an closer to shore
And got back into 80' of water, was just about to grab the dipsy rod and crank it up some, when it fired , and i cursed and said i new i was getting in to close. I kicked it into
neutral and started bringing it in, when i felt
Something on the other end.
Got it to the boat ,and it was a beautiful
Salmon at least 22inches or more
It saw the boat and jumped up out of the water and spit my spoon out.
So that was the perfect ending to a perfect
Shake down cruise and demo derby
Later RR.
