Weekend report

Made the trip over to Northern Champlain. Arrived mid morning on Friday and fished to just past noon on Sunday. The weather reports were not great Friday so we weren't too sure how much lake time we were going to get that day. The weather was great for almost the entire weekend. Way better than the forecast!! Friday and Saturday we fished for Salmon. Like others have said we could not find much outside of 2 y/o fish. We caught two a little bigger than the cookie cutters we picked away at consistently. We did pick up a Stealhead which for some reason always seems a little more special. Also a good Northern on the surface in 30 feet of water that was a little bit of a surprise. We caught over 30 fish those 2 days and 2/3 came on a red/white, copper back top gun. The rest came on a mixed bag of what felt like 185 other spoons that we washed....Copper seemed to be a consistent winner though.

Sunday we decided to try a different area. That too didn't pan out as hoped and only picked up 2 small salmon and a smallmouth. After a few hours of that it was time to change it up and go for lakers. We moved a few miles to a large 50 ft shelf. Lowered the riggers to the bottom and picked away at the lakers for the next 4 hours. Cop car or anything black and white seemed to produce. We caught 11 and dropped 3, even had a bonus double which turns up the excitement going into the wind. Some very healthy fish, most with minimal lamprey wounds compared to the past.
