Did a little DYP recon mission yesterday morning out of converse.... Invited special guest I haven't seen in years, old hunting buddy, Bill Mayo... Got Bill out of his apple orchard long enough to try to see if we could get him his 1st ever Land Locked Atlantic Salmon....
When We arrived at the ramp I figured I would be introducing DA to a new fishing buddy to round
out our crew of 3. Turns out DA and Bill are also old friends and even co-wrote an Vermont apple growing article together 15 years ago..! Wow small world...
We launched out of converse and setup in a bay near by where the water temp was warmest and
the water was the color of miked down coffee... In this area we prefer Yosuri's and Challengers
as our best sticks, but the spoons have also started to wake up this spring... This means the spread
was much more varied today including some DBsmelts... and some gravy...
During the setup I got a tug on a line as I was setting up and handed the rod to Bill to see if we
could get the skunk off quick, but we dropped it before we could get it all the way to the boat. By 704 am Billy officially had is 1st Salmon ever, a smallish 17" skinny bullet we let go, along with a bunch of his buddies as the morning progressed...
We worked a few points and circled on some good spots, and picked away till Dave had to leave
at noon. I thought... perfect time to switch-up and scout some new spots for the DYP...
Well in the 1st area we tried, where i have NEVER trolled before, we got a flurry of activity... The 2nd fish Bill landed was a 19.5" fatty that thought he was 5lbs
There....... Bill finally got to feel some better pull.... wait till ya get a 8ber on!
Bill also has special fish handling techniques you can see in some of the pics... I laughed so hard while trying to get a picture I almost dropped my phone. Gotta love a 1st time landlocked handler...
I let Bill play in the back of the boat till there were no lines left in the water and 3 of them were tangled it looked like he was building some sort of dredge net.... I have no idea how many fish he landed, I was too busy laughing at him..
Well, mission accomplished, I have a mid day hot spot holding good sized salmon that I have never
seen anyone troll before... If the DYP fleet kills the bite in our usual spots, we have plan B...
Well tomorrow I am hittin the inland sea again, this time with my favorite fishing partner Theresa
aboard... I always get lucky when she is on board... Should be interesting...
Fish on!

Matt, did you back down the hill to drop the boat in? Thinking about hitting that launch on Thursday. Guess I'm bringing waders.
