Launched @ 07:00 headed North didn't stop till i found the boat parking lot at the port of Albany. There was a hole fleet of boats, including 4 charter boats. I pull up in front
Of the hole mess.
Herring were jumping in the boat 3 and 4 at a time. I sat there watching every boat in site for 3 and a half hrs. I had one short run
That was it. Didn't see anyone boat a striper.
Told my partner it's time to move.
We headed north just past the
USS Slater DE 766 the last Destroyer Escort
Afloat in the USA. Iam USN Vietnam Veteran, and i enjoyed taking my uncle a Korean war veteran on the tour of the Slater
A few years ago.
Anyways it turned out to be the right move
We put a striper in the boat .
35" er to big to keep , had to toss it back.
We left at 14:30 headed back to our launch
Never seen another striper boated .
So thats not what i call slamming the fish.
But other people do i guess.

The water is definitely more stained in the Albany area..
Going to try again tomorrow, somewhere
In between my launch and Albany,
Will see how it goes.

We slammed the schoolies trolling near Kingston yesterday. A few slot fish but nothing huge, the cows were stuck to the bottom but I've lost too many lures on the bottom of that cesspool.

Well i started out halfway up to the port of Albany. Got herring ok, no runs , went up a few miles farther, no herring no runs
Went back up by Albany, got a few herring
And picked up another striper 35" tossed it back. A charter boat picked up a couple fish
Not far from me. Didn't see any others landed.

The charter that boated the 47" er near
Albany April 30th.

A little side note the guy that landed the striper , was from Canada, and wanted to release the fish, didn't think he could bring it back across the border.
Capt Chris, tryed for 30 minutes to revive
The fish, but it died. Capt. Chris is having it
Mounted, and going to display it at sportsmans shows.

Yesterday we went out in the rain again
Had a hard time getting herring
Had two runs. Couldn't boat them.
Then the rain dumped on us, and i called it quits.

I think this striper season is just about over.
Water temperature was 62 yesterday,
Didn't have one run all day. Still getting a few herring
Going out today last time, for me. Has been
A very tuff spring weather wise on the river
Stripers have been to small or too big to keep. Boated 12 stripers this season, that should be a days catch, not a season's catch.
First time ever for me boated a walleye
Caught on a live herring in the Hudson.

Just a side note. Any Navy veterans,
Interested.
You can go on to Hullnumber.com and look up your old ship you served on to see were it is today or what happened to it, if it was sold or scrapped. And look up old shipmates.

Well we got blown off the river Thursday.
Got a few herring, no striper runs.
Had Mingo with us, she was getting her sea legs back in shape. The little white caps
Turned into almost 2 ft'ers by noon time .
So when i got home, i started taking all the
Striper gear off my boat. And putting my down riggers back on.
