I invited Gecha down from Montreal for some spring fishin. DA, Gerry and I launched from Apple at 615am. Water was 40-48 depending on where you went. Warmest in front of sandbar swamp. The silvers were very active: we set up 4 long lines 120 back with 1 split shot and small challenger and rapala sticks. We tie direct with loop knots and use 6lb flour leader to maximize the wobble action on these tiny baits.. helps strike rate immensely..

By 9am the 1-2 color led rods started firing too! By noon we had the counter at 24 with the biggest topping off at 22.5”.. what a BlaST!

DA stretched his time as much as possible before we dropped him for a commitment, but Gerry and I had to stay longer...

All but 3 fish returned to grow bigger. Lots of boats out, seems like many were also on the bite..

The crap in the water was localized, best bite was under the crap if you could stand cleaning your lures over and over!

If anyone is missing a big orange mooselook warbler... we got it back for you as your salmon was wearing it in his mouth like a lip ring when we pulled him in! It musta worked at least 1x. Ps check your knot... it was a pull thru with no line attached and the salmon was only about 2 lbs:)

We finished tired with the clicker at 37. Finnaly the salmon itch has been scratched!

Thanks Reelax and DA for a marvellous day on the water with great company.
My first outing this year was a blast. Almost non stop action. Many doubles, and four lines fired at one time.
Heading for Vancouver tomorrow, will try West Coast fishing for the first time.
Looking forward to be back on Champlain mid May.

For some reason the fish were smaller earlier... the flurry of fish we got between noon and 1pm were larger, but still not monsters. The bigger fish will come. It’s acctually great to see so many young fish being so active. A couple of seasons ago there were few in this age class to be seen...

No i had the center console keywest with the T-top on it. We did better of the point by the culvert. I agree to say that for the past couple of years the bite has been very slow down there.

Thanks for mentioning your light leader for stickbaits, Raz. I was just coming to the conclusion that my 10lb fluoro was too stiff, and this validates it.
Haha I don't trust loop knots but I'll have to try, now.

One key point with loop knots is to tie the loop tight so the 1st treble doesn’t get hooked in the loop on the wobble. Most of my loops in the pics are too big for these little baits...

I have 8 lb leaders.
