Just a question on the depth reading with the X4D .

Is the depth calculated by the X4D PROBE as it does for the temp and the speed, or does the X4D TRANSDUCER determine the depth like a conventional transducer ? I ask because I usually get essentialy the same depth reading from both even though I'm getting some Blowback on the cable.

There is a pressure sensor in the x4d probe. So it should be actual depth not distance from ducer. I have seen pretty dramatic differences. usually on my sonar the riggers show at the same depth no matter speed until they leave the cone, but the fishhawk will vary by 5-10 feet some times with just a slight change in speed.

Run a 15 lb torpedo weight on your probe rigger. You’ll find it’s more precise.
Set your rigger at say 70’ are run in shallow till it hits bottom , that will tell you exactly where it’s at. Try it in 2 directions against and with the current
You can do the same to know where your slide divers are running
Record your info every time you hit bottom. In a couple years you’ll have all the info needed to be more successful

Yeah I have the x4d so my probe gives me depth of the ball. It makes figuring out blowback on the other riggers pretty easy too. It is crazy how much impact a little current or a tiny change in speed can have on blowback. I have gotten fairly good at judging the angle of the rigger cables as well.
