September 17th, Down south from Whallon bay to Westport

Post by Vtfishinglady »

Well, we sure picked the wrong place again.. We started trolling at Whallon bay around 7:30 this morning and trolled all the way to west port, trying several kinds of Crazy Ivans, trolling flies/plugs with dodgers, We started shallow and then ping ponged between shallow/deep. We lost one dipsy on a ridge that jumped up quickly. We took several nice sized yellow perch (no white) and later a nice pike (all returned). But no Salmon again! :? I could hear some excitement and chatter from down south (amazingly). I heard Wildfisherwoman (I think) and some others, but it was a bit broken up due to distance. The folks down south around me were having the same luck as us it seemed and didn't hear of anyone taking a Salmon. Around 1pm we stropped at Westport Marine and walked into town for some lunch. The Boars Head is a great deli!

We did try out of fishhawk TD and precision trolling table... both worked out very well.

Thanks for the report Terri.
Not really a lot going on anywhere but it's always nice to be out and enjoy the lake.
Today's weather was super...a great day to be on the water.

I've got a Fish-hawk TD on the way. I'm looking forward to trying it out.
Catch and serve with lemon.

Thanks for the report. I've got some time to spend on the water tomorrow. Equal drive for me from the IS to Charlotte, no clear signs yet as to where I may end up... Glad you enjoyed a great snadwich. Food is always a highlight.

It will pick up soon. It was just simply a stellar day to be out!

That pike would have made for some good eats - best tasting fresh water fish IMO.
Salmon, the other pink meat.
